Signs of spring: Turkey wattles developing
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Second day above freezing today, and my driveway ice is shrinking. When the wild turkeys came by today, I noticed their wattles - the fleshy extensions on the neck - are noticeably more prominent. These (along with the "caruncles" - the fleshy growths on the head and neck) turn red when the male is excited, and form part of the mating display.
