Oh, my mistake. I guess this still remains a mystery. I am not certain it is Jonah. If memory serves, Jonah was inside (not astride) a Whale. This is clearly the rare British Floating Shark. Perhaps Jonah had a shark wrangling brother (the love of the sea often is deep seated within familial genes. Still, Pat, You may have aided the research in at least finding and heir to this character astride the shark, who could shed some light as to the origins of the photo.
Pat, you must have done extensive research on these beasts. If you know for certain that this one is named Jonah, then perhaps we can put the debate to rest and declare this a real photo of a real British Floating Shark.
I believe you are correct. I think this is a depiction of the British Floating Shark, thought to be extinct in the early 1700s. While some think this photo (taken at a much later date, shows them to still exist, others claim this photo to be fake (similar to Nessie of the famed Loch Ness. I cannot either disprove, or prove these sides. I leave it up to the pros.
