Thank you very much Dulsineja, Cathy and Patti! I was keeping my distance from it as I had Elsa with me, and I was using my mini compact camera which doesn't produce photos with such clear definition as my better camera, so I was surprised how it coped with being cropped!

This one is definitely in the "hunting position". :) Some days ago we were spending a quiet morning by a river and two herons were constantly flying over their territory and we could observe one of them getting down from the dam into very shallow water, stopping all movement until it caught a snack.
