Gilded Flicker
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
A specialty of the southwestern U.S. and a close relative of the Northern Flicker in the rest of the country, this species is an occasional visitor to our backyard. Like all flickers it does a lot of feeding on ants on the ground and here shows mud on the beak from digging around recently watered garden plants.
