PAUL GAUGIN: FROM STOCKBROKER TO SYMBOLIST VISIONARY

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was a French post-Impressionist artist whose work was influential in the Symbolist movement and laid the groundwork for Primitivism.

Initially a stockbroker, Gauguin turned to art full-time after being inspired by the Impressionist movement. His style evolved from the initial Impressionist influences to incorporate bold colors, stark contrasts, and symbolic content.

Disenchanted with modern society, he sought authenticity by immersing himself in the cultures of Tahiti and the Marquesas Islands, where he created some of his most famous works like "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?"

Gauguin's art is renowned for its bold and innovative use of color and form.
