Thanks Merrie. I trying to build up some good karma should I ever reach old age. I'm hoping the kids decide not to give me the axe. lol.

I love your comment "Old chickens need love too." That is my philosophy also. I get a lot of other folks' older hens, they usually lay eggs for another year or so (I think they are so glad so have dodged the axe so they put more effort into laying eggs), then slack off, but I keep them anyway. Sometimes they teach the 'young-uns' the ropes of how far the dog chain reaches, which trees have good scratchy mulch, which have fallen fruit, etc. --Merrie

Thanks Kathy and Rosie. Kids and grandkids are coming this weekend so they're job will be scouting out wild grapes and catching grasshoppers, another chicken favourite. The big roo in the right corner is Blue and the buff girls are Buffy and Blondie. These are 3 new ones from this May. All standard Orpingtons in two different colours. Hoping to hatch some eggs in the spring. Black and white spotted is Cloud. The chick that Sally hatched last year she's an Amerecauna. The one beside Claudette is one of her two mixed breed chicks. (both roos) the second one is off by himself near the back of the group.

What a fabulous photo. We get to see more of your chickens that I've never seen before. This roo closest to us on the right is gorgeous and I love the golden ones. What are they??? And the black and white spotted ones are a new breed to me too. But then I never knew there were so many different breeds until you started educating me and then I had to do a google search and find out some of the different breeds.

I do love this photo! Can really see the action! :-)

Oh and of course Cloud is there too.

Too bad that you didn't get to see them in person Barb. All four of the rooster from this area are on the picture plus Claudette and I think both of her chicks. Penny and her chick are not.

They are looking good, Edie. I'm sure they loved the grapes. Thanks. We've been tooling around the city today. Saw lots of interesting places including a small farm in the city. They were pigs, and chickens, sheep, a donkey, a horse and three goats.

Four of my six old girls are on this picture Wendy. They don't lay much anymore but that's ok. Old chickens need love too. lol.

tigress

Nice to see all the others, Edie. I'm so used to seeing just the moms with their babies. :-))

I don't ever remember seeing a picture like this with all different colored chickens and so many of them adults. I think it's especially wonderful. :-))))))

That's not the first time I've heard of people thinking chickens have teeth Lorna. I guess most people don't really think about it if they don't have chickens.

Thanks Wendy. Wasn't a planned picture. Threw the vine over the fence and didn't realize how many would come running. Still had the camera in my pocket so I snapped this one. So much simpler than all the trouble you have to go through. But please don't stop :-))

I'll hold you to that Florrie :-))

Edie, I once had to explain to someone the expression "as scarce as hen's teeth" and they looked surprised then asked "don't hens have teeth then...? Lol!

zzzz1

WOW!!!!!! I LOVE this picture, Edie, and will come back later to read the comments after I'm caught up.

Exactly what I was thinking when I posted it Florrie. You seem to have an abundance of these wild one. I do too but the grapes on most of them are out of reach. Send me some, no better still, bring them yourself :-))

2dogs7cats

Thanks Lorna. Some of them are getting a little long in the tooth. If they had teeth that is. lol.

goingsilver

Nice to see some of the others Edie - they are a good looking bunch!
