Thanks, ALTEREDsewFittingly! I'm told that this fungus is common in parts of Europe, too. Something I didn't know before I joined jigidi. The Douglas Fir is one of the larger trees in this area; I have three trees in my back yard that I can't get my arms around, two of these and a Western Red Cedar.

I love the ruffled look of theese! Good size chunk of tree, too.

Thanks, islandflyer, for the compliment on my meager art education. Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you; I've been busy with other "stuff."

That's a pretty shot of some fungus. It looks like an artistic composition.

Thanks, bluebird, for your comment. There are quite a few fungi of this color around right now in our area, in a few different shapes. I'll shoot some more closer to home tomorrow and post them if I can find enough daylight - rain is predicted and I have a full day of volunteer work scheduled.

Thanks again -- for the deeper look!
