Chef blogger Amanda writes,

"I absolutely love pecan pie. However, it is not a pie I grew up eating. Our family enjoyed pumpkin, sweet potato and apple pie during our Thanksgiving gatherings. It was not until I saw an episode of the Pioneer Woman where we baked a pecan pie, that I decided to try it and immediately loved it.

I created my mini pecan tarts as a spin off of the classic pecan pie. I really love individual desserts, as they make serving so easy!

I will be making these for my family this Thanksgiving. I love that they can be made ahead and will keep for two days at room temperature stored in an air tight container."

The recipe is available at the link to Amanda's Plate.

@Ms_Maddy, thank you for sweetening the topic. :-)

Also love my favourite nuts on jigidi

Pecans are my least favorite nut. Plus the pie is soooooo sweet! I do not eat sweets, but one day I got some filling on my finger (Mother bakes the best pies) and licked it off! Yuck!!!!!!!! :-)) dj

And, see, I just appreciate it any time someone throws science or math at a topic. :-D

It's a beautiful picture, I agree. I was just pointing out that ratios make a difference in expectations - true of many things in life.

I gave it no thought whatsoever - I chose it for the colors, not the mouth appeal - and in fact I don't eat desserts anyhow, so I have no dog in this race. But you have convinced me that the science would indeed change.

I love the people who experiment in the kitchen, and who descend into the manholes to save the kittens, and all other good human beings. Some of us want to know the outcomes, but are not willing or able to do it ourselves.

This is a conundrum for me - did Amanda ever try a full-sized pecan pie? The taste of a product is sometimes altered when size is changed. The ratios are affected. Does a full-size Reese's Peanut Butter Cup taste the same as a mini? No. The PB/chocolate ratio changes. This tart would be pecan-heavy and crust-forward (love cooking shows) and probably taste nothing like a true pecan pie, although as a tart, it would be quite nice.

Not my favourite nut.
