I still like to do 400-pc puzzles, and normally have a couple on the go, but now that I've learned to do smaller ones, I do mostly smaller ones, mainly so I can do more, but never as many as I bookmark even on just one day. I love working with the wonderful photos and puzzles I find here on Jigidi, and participating in the Jigidi community.

Hi Patsy, thanks for your comment! I wonder how the redbuds evolved to have this kind of flowering- what insect did they have in mind when they decided to bloom on the trunk?! Plants are so amazing! Saw that you mention you like to do 400 pc puzzles! Wow! You have so much patience and perseverance!!

Fascinating! I'm familiar with western redbuds in Oklahoma, but don't remember seeing this caluliflory. If I visit there again when redbuds are in bloom, I'll look closer.

WOW! Thanks!

Hi Rebecca- yes, redbuds do bloom all up and down the tree trunks and branches.
The unusual blooming pattern is called "cauliflory". There are a few other trees that do this but the most famous is the cacao tree in the tropics. It blooms and forms fruit right on the tree trunks; the seeds are then carefully set aside to ferment; then ground up into powder; and voila- that is where chocolate originates. Copy and paste this link into your browser for an article on this.

I thought I'd seen plenty of redbuds trees in Georgia, but I never saw them flower on the trunks! Do any other trees do this?
