In June we travelled by rail from Vancouver (British Columbia) to Montreal (Quebec) where we spent five nights. We then took an overnight train to Moncton (New Brunswick). Next we drove to Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia), and flew home from Halifax.

We may Faye ..When they were trendy in the sixties I used to wear a lovely tartan bought in Windsor ..but OF COURSE Jacques never did .I fancy hiking boots but never ever buy shoes or boots on line ,for some reason they never fit properly .I have to try on many pairs before I feel "comfy".

Jill ,how lovely that you should meet someone from your clan on Jigidi ! You may even plan to see each other some day.Just great.♥☺♥☺♥

;DDD

JillianB

Faye it all far to complex for me :-)

gemstone

I now seem to remember you mentioning that before, Jill. The ancestry is quite intricate to follow in the clans...our neighbours growing up were "May" but the Clan and tartan associated with their last name were "McLeod"...and at that time I loved that yellow tartan. :D

JillianB

To answer your question Faye my great grandmother was a McEwen she married a Luxton (my maiden name) so same Clan as Marilyn :-))

gemstone

I never thought to ask, Andie...perhaps. Hee hee Does this mean you and Jacques will be wearing kilts next year? And will Jacques or Stéphan be addressing the haggis on January 25th? ;DDD

I just googled the McEwan and MacKinnon tartans, Marilyn...I agree, the McEwan tartan is lovely. I noticed on the MacKinnon site that Andie could purchase hiking boots in her tartan! LOL I really like the Dress Stewart with all it's red. :)))

Andie2a1383

Have I told you Jacques and I joined Clan MacKinnon after I met Robert Amyot the society commissionner for Europe in Aubigny ? Very friendly people all over the world ,we're ready to help next year with the celebrations of the Auld Alliance in Aubigny although of course neither of us has Scottish origins.

@JillianB I hope Jill responds. I am McEwen and Shepard Clan per the duplicate of the Coat of Arms my Mom had. I call myself McEwen as that was my grandfather's name. I have seen photos of our tartan and I think it is beautiful. I am interested in knowing Jill's Clan.

Andie2a1383

Straight from Aubigny sur Nère is he ? lol .Beautiful picture Faye ,thanks ,and I do miss the sound of bagpipes after wakening for a week to it .♥☺♥☺♥

gemstone

What clan/tartan do you identify with, Jill? The nearest I can get to being Scottish is to say that, "In a former life..." LOL

JillianB

Bless the Scots - I have Scottish ancestry myself and even here they have Highland Games events.

gemstone

I love the opening to "Outlander", too. They've changed the words but the music is the same... ;)

canoekaw

I really enjoy the pipes as well. I looked up the verses to the Skye Boat Song and found it with the pipes.

gemstone

Jill...Nova (New) Scotia (Scotland) is filled with many Scots who were thrown off their lands two centuries ago...and this province is a lot like their Old Country...they thrive here! They even have a Gathering of the Clans quite regularly...with Highland Games. Plus, the Provincial flag is St. Andrew's Cross, ;DDD

I always love the pipes, Marilyn! ❤️

canoekaw

Wonderful!

JillianB

Oh no I think that gentleman is lost! Makes a stunning photo Faye, really beautiful, TFS

gemstone

He even played Skye Boat Song for me, Ardy! Love the pipes! ❤️❤️❤️

It was a terrible tragedy, Ardy. A pall hung over us for a long time as each newscast across Canada brought an update...or every so often a reminder as families gathered...it still doesn't seem like it was so long ago. :(((

Years ago there were bagpipers in several places beginning July 1 but I never saw any here. Neat. I love hearing the pipes. I was reading about Swissair Flight 111. So sad. Brought tears running down my face. Lovely photo, Faye. Thank you.
