Lisa, I didn't take the time to really absorb what I read about him today, but I was impressed too. His reign lasted almost 50 years and he died of natural causes, which was pretty unusual!

@Artola I think you mean a head of garlic? And you're quite right—it does look more like garlic than like an onion. I really wonder what his turbans actually looked like. In almost all of the paintings of him, his turban is the largest one I've ever seen.

I remember studying about Suleiman and being very impressed with him. He was very astute and a major player in eastern Europe and the Middle East and was the most
powerful ruler of his time. Thanks for the links - I didn't know anything about his wife.

Suleiman was indeed magnificent, not so his turban?/headdress. Forgive my 20th- century sensitivity but I can't help but see it as a giant clove of garlic on top of his head. Thank you for posting the links - very interesting. :o))
