close encounter with a bluetit chick :)
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
When the chicks were still in the nest box I tried to be on that balcony as little as possible, so as not to disturb the bluetits. But when it got very quiet in the box I thought they had all fledged. They do that each year without telling me they're leaving and without saying goodbye :)))
But now that they were gone I could work on the balcony and clean things up (birds do make a mess sometimes). I was sweeping the carpet when suddenly a fluffy ball fell right in front of my brush : a bluetit chick!!! It hopped to the edge of the balcony and fluttered into the oak tree. The last chick from the box? I could hear a lot of little voices in the oak tree, but also the adult bluetits calling. I thought they were rounding up the chicks to have them all in one place (easier for them to feed them, they will get fed by the parents for at least another fortnight before they can look after themselves), but maybe they were calling to the chick still left in the box? After I finished cleaning the carpet I decided to clean the window as well. And while I was doing that something soft and fluffy fell on to my shoulder, sat for a few seconds and then let itself fall in a planter. Another bluetit chick!!! Fluttering/falling out of the box above my head. I got my camera, hoping it would stay for a bit. And it did. For just the one photo though, then it hopped out of the planter, onto the carpet, to the edge of the balcony and into the oak tree, to join the rest of his family. I guess that really was the last one. After he fluttered to the tree it immediately got a lot more quiet in that tree.
Pity though that he landed in such an untidy spot, that planter is not in use at the moment.
But at least now I can't say anymore that I never see the chicks fledge, one even landed on me:))))
