“Rice paddies cover the mountainsides of Yuanyang County, China. Constructed in “steps” by the Hani people for the last 1,300 years, the slope of the terraces varies from 15 to 75 degrees with some having as many as 3,000 steps! The stunning colors that you see here are indeed real and result from the presence of water and certain plants within the terraces.”

I'm guessing all the travel in this area is on foot. I'm glad you also enjoyed it, stunned. You're welcome!

Sure looks like a pretty painting to me and I do not see any roads. Thanks for the nice post.

What a wonderful idea, Patmac--textiles of this would be amazing!

A dreamily beautiful photo, and lovely puzzle pieces to work with! I was almost mesmerized by them. What a fabric design this would make!

LOL

D'OH! (Slapping forehead.) Guess I'll need an extra credit question on the next one. Thx.

I know you didn't ask for an answer but I just wanted to be sure you read the last sentence of the description above since it is discussing color. :-)

RebeccaB

I wonder whether the different hues are due to different soils, or the rice varieties. (Assuming the water is basically the same for all the locations in this picture.)

Just a rumination, not an actual question, so it doesn't need an answer. :) (I do frequently follow your links.) And my questions are for any who are interested, if that suits you. There is much to be curious about in your puzzles.

Yes, it HAS been suggested that I change my name to I. Wonder (not related to Stevie).

Rebecca, it really does look like a painting when you solve it and zoom in!

I agree, Judy. Such an intricate job of terracing over so many years.

Elsiesw

:)) Really amazing though.

Impressionist's dream.
