Hi, Bev. I realised today that I missed your comment from November '17!! Life was good then. :-))
It was only a framed print and I got bored of it and bought another pic to go in its place. I've still got this one in a spare broom, where I keep0 "dead" paintings!! LOL
Ariel and Taeping left Foochow in China on the same tide, and arrived in London 99 days later on the same tide. A very famous race. The painting is by Montague Dawson.
Not sure what it is about tall ships, but I've always been drawn to them. And, once again, you've led me down memory lane. This time way back....I think I was in my early teens. Had a chance to take part in a summer program based aboard an old fireboat (Duwamish) moored at the south end of Lake Union. We learned splicing, bells, semaphore (we made our own flags), learned to sail 10ft boats and, as a finale, the group sailed aboard the Adventuress, a 100+ft gaff-rigged schooner. Loved it all. Both ships are registered national historic landmarks. Hadn't thought about this in forever. Thanks for conjuring up some wonderful memories, John! :-)) So, what draws you to these ships?....saw your parrotman comment about having a large print of this on your wall.
