And the answer is................Ecuador

Quito (formally San Francisco de Quito) is the capital and the largest city of Ecuador, and at an elevation of 2,850 metres (9,350 ft) above sea level, it is the second-highest official capital city in the world, after La Paz, and the one which is closest to the equator. It is located in the Guayllabamba river basin, on the eastern slopes of Pichincha, an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains.
In 2008, the city was designated as the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations.
The historic centre of Quito has one of the largest, least-altered and best-preserved historic centres in the Americas. Quito and Kraków, Poland, were among the first World Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO, in 1978. The central square of Quito is located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of the equator; the city itself extends to within about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) of zero latitude. A monument and museum marking the general location of the equator is known locally as la mitad del mundo (the middle of the world), to avoid confusion, as the word ecuador is Spanish for equator.

Take heart Ellen, the presenter probably didn't sort out the picture. If it is blue screen tech, she can't see it either :)

Well done, in advance everyone :))

Mariposamia

Be patient, wait till tomorrow!

PutterDutt

TEN, you dolt! (msbonne, not Heidi.)

Surreal_Heidi

Easy peasy..... I just purchased an item of clothing from Quito.... online of course.

I hope someone lost their job for being so extremely ignorant about geography!!! There are plenty of smarter people looking for a good job with benefits.

msbonne

How many Blond years are in a decade PD?

PutterDutt

WHY did she have to be blond? She set us back at least a decade!!! :o(

ringleader

Think I know this one, Bonnie. Thanks.

nanab

This sounds so familiar, I'm going to take some time to think on this one.

manicpuzzler

There is only one Hong Kong :))

Cannot imagine CNN did this mistake, but apparently they did in 2013.
Is there a place named Hong Kong in Brazil? I tried to find it on google.maps, but it only showed me the one in Asia.

Another Darwin award…..

The Amateur Cliff Diver
Alongside Craig the paraglider in the 1999 Darwin Awards nominations was a 27-year-old who met his untimely demise at Skrinkle Haven in Wales.
In an apparent attempt to impress a group of teenage boys, the man (who’s name the Darwin Awards don’t reveal) dove off an 80-foot cliff into the water.
If done properly, an 80-foot cliff dive shouldn’t be fatal, but it appears the man had zero prior experience of high-diving.
He was knocked unconscious by the water, and although the teenagers climbed down and fished him out, he was proclaimed dead on arrival at the hospital. Needless to say the teenagers weren’t impressed by the stunt.
