“The city of Lyon is the third largest city in France and is situated at the convergence of the Rhône and Saône Rivers. A section of the city, split by the Rhône, is seen in this Overview. Lyon is often recognized as the birthplace of cinema—pioneered by the Lumière brothers here in 1895—as well as a major culinary center.”

I'm sure that's correct, Fernando. Thanks for the link.

There are rivers which colour is not due to the light that is reflected back but to the nature of the soil of its bed or even to other natural sources. The Rio Negro (Black River) in Amazonia is such an example.

I don't think green rivers from satellites are limited to Europe. I seem to recall come Overviews showing other rivers looking the same way, or even black. I think it has something to do with the angle in relation to the sun, due to the light that is reflected back.

Or it could be that north is the bottom of the picture and it becomes the west side.
Another Lyon anecdote, if I remember correctly, is it was a major route for the underground to smuggle out downed flyers.
Question; why do the European Rivers all look so green when photographed from the air. Must be something in the soil that is leached.
Thanks Bill

Your guess is as good as mine, Pat. But thanks for visiting!

I would guess the east side of the river was developed further away from the banks first. Less green. Maybe? Or it could be just the section they chose to photograph.

So sorry to hear that. Misbehaving rodents can be such a bother.
