ncchelle, you're quite correct, it is Dalek. No, the 'r' is not a UK thing, but it could well be blamed on the pronunciation used in part of Southern/Eastern England, known as 'Estuary English' (for the Thames Estuary).
Also, thought it was Dalek. Or is the r a UK thing?
