This poster, designed by Wes Wilson (remember him - early Fillmore?), is the only Beatles poster done in a psychedelic fashion. This was for the final Beatles concert in San Francisco's Candlestick Park, August 29, 1966.

By the summer of 1966, the Beatles could no longer stand the emotional, physical, and creative strain of the lengthy tours that they had been on for the previous three years and gave their last live performance.

In all, The Beatles received eleven Grammy Awards, 15 Ivor Novello Awards (for songwriting and composing), and have had six Diamond, 26 Multi-Platinum, 42 Platinum, and 45 Gold albums in the U.S. (these figures vary according to source). In 2009, the Recording Industry Association of America certified that The Beatles have sold more albums in the U.S. than any other artist. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Also on the bill - but really, who was watching - were the Cyrkle, the Remains, and the Ronettes. Let's give these acts a little respect just for showing up, knowing nobody wanted to hear them, but, fifty three years later, here's some of their music.

Now we're talking, Mpp - Beatles were big in our life. Never got to meet them, although we almost went to a party they attended. Does that make me famous as well ? Anyway really like the poster, etc. (❀ᴗ❀)
John that crack about Mike Love's poor old noddle could be libellous - good job I 'm on your side.
Still, if you ever need an excellent paralegal, I know of none (❀ᴗ❀)

Wes Wilson?!? Wasn't he the forgotten brother of Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson? I read somewhere, possibly on one of your poster notes, that Wes Wilsonwas an incredibly gifted artist much like his brothers, but he chose painting as the medium to express in inner most feelings, to release his emotions and to lose his grip on reality, much like his Big Bro. He started slow by first painting the windows of the Beach Boys limousine black, as he acquired more confidence and recognition he was soon painting all those vertical stripes on the early Beach Boy's shirts and later he was commissioned to paint hair on Mike Love's balding head. Wes Wilson had a very successful career painting historically correct yet esthetically pleasing pictures of various door knobs and at one point he was commissioned to produce an illustration of a tongue depressor for the AMA's yearly "Doctoring for Idiots" (also known as "How to Get Rich by Misdiagnosing Common Illnesses and Performing Needless Surgeries Without Spending a Lifetime In Court)….but he always remained humble and for the last 43 years he has lived in the same tent he pitched under the I-10 overpass.
