Awww....thanks, Cellie, Robyn, PG and oddio!

You are right, oddio, we didn't have many worries back then. Maybe all I worried about was if I was going to be able to learn cursive writing and if our cat was ever going to accept me into the family. Ha ha!

PG, I did have two little boyfriends in kindergarten. I still remember...Johnny and Ritchie. Ritchie had a shock of red hair and freckles and I liked him best. Johnny used to walk home with me because he lived over one of the stores downtown, which was a few blocks past my house. Funny the things we remember! Then I moved and there went my love life.

oddio

Ain't she purty!

A wonderful age. Think of all the stuff we didn't know and didn't have to worry about! :>)

photogent

Well aren't we the happy, cute little girl ready for a day at school, and breaking the boys hearts.

robryan

I've got a similar one to this too Laura - I love the goofy grin :)))

CelesteH

Too adorable LJ :)

laurajane

Thank you for your nice comments, Pat and Ank. Appreicate you gals!

puzzeljac

Lovely Laura, what a great time isn't it? Love your big smile.

pkin38

Cute little girl there LJ... Best time of life .... Hugs

laurajane

Oh, the memories, pinknblack! Ha ha!

pinknblack

Similar dress, size 6X for chubby little girls and we had a dark brown and white Ford Station Wagon, but I don't remember the year. It was mandatory to wear dresses to school and I hated them. I was always hanging out on the Monkey Bars, in a dress, no less. Great photo and thanks for the memories.

laurajane

Looks like several of us had the same kind of dresses back then, javasage. Maybe it is indicative of the era in which we lived.
Yep, warbler, I drank out of the garden hose and ate snow all the time. And, miraculously, we are still alive.

warbler

To Cool! Laura, Too Cool! We even came home from school and played more. And drank out of garden hoses and stuff. And made it just fine.

javasage

I had a similar dress, too! My Mother hand smocked the front bodice, and I was proud of it because she was so proud of herself! Great pic! Thanks ;-)

laurajane

Jack, I am glad you put those two comments in the proper order! Me first and the car second. Hahaha!
Morris...yes, a big happy smile :o)))
Thank you very much Lorna, Patti, Pilley, Nana, Tex and Pumpkin!!
Tex...yes, a lot happier than when they strapped that pink Easter bonnet on me.

pumpkinhead

I just absolutely, positively LOVE THIS!!!!!

texasstar7

Great picture, LJ! And you look a lot happier than you did in that Easter pic! Thanks for sharing.

Nanax4

What a cutie pie! Great photo, Laura! Thanks for sharing with us.

pilley

We had the same tradition. A photo on the first day of school (we were all dressed in our finest homemade). I did the same for my children (they were not always happy about it) but now they have a yearly timeline for great memories.

PLG1958

Precious, Laura! Thank you!

goingsilver

That is a great photo Laura! You look so proud and happy.

morris186

To bad that we did not realize how good we had it, until years later. You always had a happy smile, didn't you?

jacquescamus

beautiful young girl and beautiful car Laura!

laurajane

Ardy, I wasn't born back then, but I think the times didn't change as fast as they do now. Wow, just before Pearl Harbor! What was it like when they announced that PH had been bombed? Do you remember that?

Gene, I was spiffed up...but be assured that I was back out climbing trees by the end of the day. Thanks!

gnt1041

Great photo Laura you lookked real nice and were all ready to go

laurajane

Maybe we got our dresses at the same store, Julia! I grew up in New Jersey, although I live in Illinois now.

Thanks lyndee. I was a happy little girl!

ringleader

A wonderful picture. You are so lucky to have it. We all dressed like that back when I started school in 1941 - about three months before Pearl Harbor. Thanks for sharing this special moment in your life.

juliamccoybuckner

We had a 59 Chevrolet station wagon, red and white. I had red plaid and green plaid dresses for school. How funny. I love it.

lyndee

Awwwww. Laura, you look so cute. Happy Days!!

laurajane

I probably thought my new dress was the bee's knees.

chickiemama

Aw and you looks so proud too.
