Why are you reporting this puzzle?

The rabbit you see here is a cottontail of some kind. Someone told me they were Desert Cottontails. Cottontails often do what this one is doing when people approach. They freeze. I guess they think you won't see them if they don't move. I can often get with seven or eight feet of them without them moving. Jack Rabbits on the other hand, seem to be off and running most of the time before you can begin to get close to them.

Jumpy as a cat on a hot tin roof?

jals

lol - yes. One of my dad's sayings was "It's better than a kick in the pants." And another one which always made me sick was, "Slicker than snot on a doorknob." "Don't change horses in the middle of a stream" was another one he would use if we were playing cards.

jals, I forgot about that one. My grandfather used it all the time. Unlike my dad's January one, it is a G rated. Terry

jals

Wow Terry! You had a wealth of them. And good job Merrie! Don't want to forget those hens.
We always said, slow as molasses in January.

seagirl7

mble, there's another one. I have heard that but no for awhile. Terry

Here is another one for you...madder than a wet hen...and hens are NOT happy when wet. :-)

Very interesting Mr.Cottontail. Beautiful bunny...

jals, how about: wise as an owl. quiet as a mouse. sick as a dog. mean as a junkyard dog. dead as a dog. busy as bee. strong as an ox. busy as a beaver, poor as a church mouse, blind as a bat, stubborn as a mule, quick as a cat, drunk as a skunk, mad as a hornet, gentle as a lamb, slow as a snail, sly as a fox, crazy as a loon, fat as a pig, and scared as a rabbit. Those are the animal ones I have heard. Then there are the non-animal ones, some of which don't make sense. Like: clean as a whistle, slick as a whistle, smart as a whip, white as a ghost, big as a house, red as a rose, dead as a doornail, serious as a train wreck, cool as a cucumber, warm as toast, sharp as a tack, small as a gnat, cold as ice, round as a ball, dark as night, hot as hell, straight as an arrow, rich as a king, long as your arm, funny as a clown, clear as day, clear as mud, plain as the nose on your face and my dad's favorite, colder than a witch's tit in January. I probably use these more than most. Terry

jals

Yep. Sly as a fox. Hungry as a bear. Big as an elephant. What other ones can you think of?

seagirl7

jals, they sure can. I guess that is where the saying, "quick like a bunny," comes from. Terry

jals

They freeze because that is their defense. Some predators can't see you if you're still, they need you to move. Humans have better eyesight and can see them even when they're frozen, but they can move pretty fast if you get too close.

Thanks ruby18, I did take it. I take all the photos on this site with a couple very rare exceptions. If I should happen to post a photo by someone else, I always give them credit. Terry

ruby18

Lovely photo, great colours, and did you take it? :-)))
