Absolutely stunning - wow! I'm catching up on flower puzzles tonight!
Thank you, laurajane!
It is an Orchid Primrose.
Thanks, pinknblack and Kathleen!
What a beautiful flower, thanks for the post and information.
The leaves and base look just like the common primrose we are all familiar with. I would have never guessed primrose either.
I would never have guessed Primrose! It's shape is not like the ones I'm familiar with. I see from your description that it would not do well in my yard. Too hot and dry here! Thank you, Pinknblack!
PRIMULA VIALII is the name of this pretty little plant.Primula vialiiChinese Pagoda PrimroseUSDA Zone: 3-9Plant number: 1.445.400Primroses come in many shapes and sizes. This species looks radically different from others, bearing upright stems with a rocket-shaped spike of flowers in a shocking combination of mauve-pink and scarlet red, appearing in summer. Plants require a rich, moist soil that will not dry out in the summer. Tolerates full sun in cool summer regions. Great for cutting. This species is not always long lived, but may self-seed when happy. Good choice for the waterside and excellent in shady parts of the rock garden. Received a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (1993).
Me, too, pinknblack. Thanks for looking, Chickie. Maybe david will help with this one. LOL! gnt you always make me smile...and sometimes laugh out loud! Thanks!

Well, I looked through my 3 books. Can't find it. If anyone knows, david would.
I know the name of lots of flowers, but not this one. It is quite pretty.
I don't either, laurajane! Maybe one of our flower experts can tell us.
I don't have a clue, Nana, but it's a beauty!
