(We were 30 hours in transit from Johannesburg to New York!!! ) We first spent a wonderful weekend in Orlando and went to Disney land everyday . Then onto New York, the snow was a winter wonderland, the next day we were fetched by our taxi driver who arrived in a big 4x4 and she took us in the snow to the harbor where we got onto a cruise liner for 10 incredible days. The next few days we spent sailing to the Caribbean and there it was boiling hot!!! And then back to New York for 2 nights where we shopped til we dropped snow and all, then it was on to New Orleans for 4 nights which was very disappointing and dirty and we did not like it, from there we spent 2 amazing weeks with our friends in Oklahoma, after that we flew back home to winter all over again xxx this trip was a 21st birthday present to our youngest daughter and was thoroughly enjoyed by us all and was so very special xxxx @ElvisBanana ElvisBanana 1 day ago Where I live we don't get much snow. When it does snow, it is usually pretty light, it hangs around most of the day but ultimately semi-melts, then re-freezes overnight. That leaves us with ice in the morning : (. An hour away and we're in the mountains, some of which have snow year-round. On the east side of the main mountain chain (the Cascades) they get snow just about every winter that stays around for a long time.I can't even imagine having seen snow only 5 times in your life! That's once every 12 years!!! And to see NYC (New York City) in the snow must have been fabulous! I bet Central Park was a wonderland!I think the rain is going to hit us again today. Yesterday we got our first rain in a while. Of course, the rain decides to come just when it's time to get the hay in the barn! Haying season is always a rush around here because it's still the rainy season. However, our summers are usually dry - with just enough rain to keep us from becoming a desert! : ) brightspark 4 days ago Snow very far from us but incredible how we feel the effects. I have only seen snow 5 times in 60 years and once was in New York in 2007 - was pretty awesome ☺☺☺☺ enjoy your weather and the rain too ♥ ElvisBanana 4 days ago I'm sorry that we had an absolutely beautiful day. Perfectly clear with just a few clouds dotting the sky here and there. Cool temperatures, but still warm enough to go out in shorts and a t-shirt. Rain will be coming this weekend, but it's just ideal right now. Sorry for your snow, etc. : ( brightspark 4 days ago @ElvisBanana - you are so lucky to have most of your family close by - from a humongous family we are down to maybe 24 in south africa (and some are in cape town an 18 hour drive) and some in Duban (about a 9 hour drive) You are so fortunate to have everything almost at your doorstep ☺☺ and Summer too ☼☼ freezing cold today - snow in Cape Town and we feeling it here ☻☻ ElvisBanana 5 days ago I'm really lucky. Where I live happens to be situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley. In fact, we're not far from Corvallis, taken from the French for "heart of the valley" (coeur de la vallée in French). The valley stretches from Portland to Eugene, 110 miles (177 kilometers). That's a fairly long valley, from what I've seen.I'm about an hour+ to Portland, and hour+ to Eugene, 1 1/2 hours from the mountains, 1 1/2 hours from the coast, 3 hours from the "high desert" of central Oregon, 7 1/2 hours from a true desert in the southeast corner of the state. We have just about everything I could want. Beaches (that are protected by law from private ownership), mountains, rivers, canyons, dessert, high plains, old growth forests... what else could a guy want?As far as family, all my immediate family are in Oregon. Other cousins are in Seattle, Washington and in the deep south (Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.). sparklightie 22 May 2020 @ElvisBanana sparklightie 22 May 2020 So glad I kind of came near to you ☺☺☺ we live in Johannesburg. South Africa. We have shops near us, maybe a 10 min drive away and the bigger malls about a 20/30 min drive. We are in a Suburb surrounded by leafy trees (along the streets) and live in a retirement complex with beautiful gardens - moved here 4 and a half years ago from a big house and love it here. We downsized from a huge home with many rooms - as hubby got bored he would add on - eventually became too big for us and as my hubby was ill quite often we decided to go smaller - now only 112 square meters and it is perfect - we have a little garden of our own, pool in the complex. There is company if one wants .. or not ☺☺☺ we have lovely neighbours - now we see each other from a distance. Of course i love sesame street as did our daughters and our grandsons too. We are 7 minutes from our daughter, soninlaw and our 2 grandsons of 15 and almost 13 and a 9/10 hour flight if we go direct to our other daughter soninlaw and 2 little grandsons 0f 4 and 9 months and 1 and 9 months, whom we have not seen in 18 months ☻☻☻ thank god for cell phones and modern technology at least we can see them every few days and chat ☺☺☺ I taught myself to read at about 4 and a half as i could not wait til school xxx To get to the sea side is about a 8/9 hour drive from us - used to go once or twice a year . Hugs and smiles to you ♥☺♥ ElvisBanana 21 May 2020 You'd never find my town, but the closest one you suggested is Salem. Salem is the capital of Oregon, but the city is not interesting in the least! I call it So Lame!!! There are literally about three places in the entire city that I find worthwhile. If I really thought about it, I might come up with more, but that's it. At least one of those places is a nation-wide store called Trader Joe's, so that's hardly specific to So Lame.I live in a small town that is about 17.2 miles (27.68 km) to the southwest of So Lame. It's called Monmouth, and I live just outside the city limits.Mommouth's big claim to fame is the local college, Western Oregon University. It was established in 1856 - three years before Oregon became a state! One bit of trivia that few people know is that the idea for the famed kid's educational show "Sesame Street" was first developed at our university. At that time, it was Oregon College of Education, and the idea was hatched by a couple of students in the Teaching Research program. They realized they really had something, so they moved to a bigger city to launch the idea. I watched the very first episode, and have loved the show to this day. I'm fairly sure they make local versions of Sesame Street all over the world, but if you're not familiar, it's mixes live action with puppets (actually, Jim Henson's muppets) to engage children and teach them valuable lessons. Both my sister and I were able to read before we got to kindergarten! So that establishes MY whereabouts, how about you??! brightspark 21 May 2020 My geography sucks so i was trying to work out where you live as a lot of america is 6 hours behind us - i see vancouver is 9 hours behind us ... could it be could it be?? or is it san fransisco, san diego, salem, sacramento, phoenix, arizona, seattle, las vegas, los angeles, portland, hermosillo or tijuana this is what i could find courtesy of google that is 9 hours behind us - pls solve the mystery for me ☺☺☺☺ @ElvisBanana xxx ElvisBanana 20 May 2020 No, make that NINE hours ahead of me! ElvisBanana 20 May 2020 So I guess that means you're eight hours ahead of me. ElvisBanana 20 May 2020 Now, 18 minutes later, it's 1:08 p.m., or if you're like me, it's 13:08. sparklightie 20 May 2020 well we on line at the same time so Hugs Hugs Hugs xx what time is it by you - now 9.50 pm. here @ElvisBanana ElvisBanana 20 May 2020 Oh, dang! I've only been signing into jigidi every other day or so. If I knew I'd be getting your hugs, I'd have been coming every day!!! brightspark 19 May 2020 hi see you popped into jigidi today ☺☺☺ and some hugs ♥ brightspark 16 May 2020 ♥♥♥ ElvisBanana 16 May 2020 Hugs right back at you! ♥♥♥ sparklightie 15 May 2020 @ElvisBanana so glad you popped in - Good to hear that you are okay ☺☺☺ as long as i see you now and then that is fine - stay well my friend ♥♥ HUGS ElvisBanana 15 May 2020 Our family is small, but strong. We were able to spend several days together, here at Mom and Dad's place. Since they're the epicenter of the family, that was appropriate!I was missing you, too, which is why I've returned. I probably won't be here every day (it's been a couple since my last visit) but I will eventually show up...Much love to you!!! sparklightie 12 May 2020 @ElvisBanana ♥ have not seen you for a while - hope all okay and missing you ♥ brightspark 10 May 2020 @ElvisBanana brightspark 10 May 2020 hi dear friend - happy mother's day for your dear mom xxx hope you had a good weekend - we did ☺☺☺ ♥ ElvisBanana 6 May 2020 God Bless ♥♥♥ sparklightie 4 May 2020 good to hear you are also all fine xxx hubby went to draw his pension today - left at 6.15am to be first in the queue at 7 and he was, then he did some shopping too - they opened especially at 7am today for pensioners was great as they normally only open at 9am - i worried the whole time he was out - masked and gloved and sanatized. When he came home he put all the things he had bought on newspaper on the kitchen floor and i samatized each item, wiped down and then only packed away. Think it is going to br like this for a good couple of months xxx Stay safe dear friend and God Bless ♥ ElvisBanana 3 May 2020 Our restrictions aren't as tough as yours, but in the end we're going to be dealing with this virus longer than you are. Some states are even talking about going back to normal! That's hard to believe, considering how many people are dying from this virus, but they're more concerned about the "almighty dollar". Those of us with half a brain are still adhering to safety precautions, though probably not as tough as yours. Basically, we're talking about masks, gloves, and maintaining a 6' distance. It's good that you've been able to hear from your daughter. I hope all is well with you and all your family! We're doing just fine here. ~Love brightspark 3 May 2020 We are not allowed to go out - walks allowed from 6am - 9am - (i usually sleep till at least 8am) masks on and no stopping to chat and have to keep a distance between one another. No visiting at all, no drives, no unnecessary going out - have to show where and why u going out, police and road blocks on the roads, over 60 have to stay home ☻☻☻ no going to parks or socialising. Our daughter in Israel watsupped called us today - was awesome to see out little munchkins 16 months and 4 and a 7 months ☺☺☺☺☺☺ hope you having a good weekend ☺♥☺ ElvisBanana 2 May 2020 Thanks for the song, and I'm sending the same belated music right back to you ????I don't know if it ruins the tradition too much, but I would think that you could still take drives, just omit the lunch. You could even pack a picnic lunch and find a nice spot in a park to eat!Stay safe so we can have a good visit when this is over! sparklightie 1 May 2020 ♫ Happy Belated birthday my friend and to dad too ♫ I like the sound of your chinese ala japanese chicken ☺☺☺ i would have helped you have another inch of moms cake - it was passover on my birthday and lockdown so no cake ☻☻☻we have just been staying home, would be so nice to go for a drive - hubby and i always used to do that - just get in the car and drive and listen to cds and sing along - and land up somewhere or other for lunch and then drive home. At least hubby also cooks so we have turns !!(when we do cook - we cook in bulk and then flavour differently and then have quite a few meals to freeze) please Lord we all keep well and stay safe - hugs and much love ♥♥ ElvisBanana 1 May 2020 We're doing okay, too. I had my 52nd birthday on 29 April! (Dad had his 85th on 4 April). Mom made her famous "Chinese Chicken". It's not really Chinese, but she and her late mother came up with the recipe when trying to figure out a Chinese chicken dish - I think it was Mar Far Chicken. I'm not sure of all of the ingredients, but it's basically like coated, fried chicken chunks, with one big addition. She adds an ingredient that we call "funyu" in Japanese. I guess it's also a Chinese ingredient, but I've known it through the Japanese lens. It's basically a fermented soy product. It's amazing how much flavor it gives! There's also a bit of sugar in there, so it's sweet and savory and very delicious! Not only that, but the night before she had made a flourless chocolate cake - from scratch! Nowadays, it's so easy to buy a package from the store and when you make it, that's "homemade". This one had no mix, she truly made it from scratch! It was fantastic, but so dense that four of us only ate about 1/4 of the cake! It was excellent with fresh-whipped cream!!!We have all been lying low. Occasional trips to town, meaning we pull out the masks and gloves, but otherwise our lives in the country aren't too much different. It would be nice to go to a restaurant every now and then, but for now we're just trying to get past all of this.Much love to you and your family! sparklightie 29 April 2020 @ElvisBanana - Hi my friend - hope you had a good good day - hubby and i have cabin fever - day 35 almost ended - hubby just gone out to get his INR tested twice and then he went to the chemist to get our meds., we have been doing a lot of real puzzles ☺☺ We going to stage 4 on friday but still lockdown for us, hey I had my 60th birthday on 7th April at home - had to cancel celebrations : maybe later this year ... or not ☻☻, no going out unless essential, no visiting, no work for us yet, most shops will still be closed - very strict rules if you go shopping, a lot of aisles have been closed - luckily our daughter been going shopping for us, then we fetch them from our complex gate and chat to her for about half an hour .. at a distance. Our kids and grandsons are all fine thank god - how are you and your family doing? hugs ♥ ElvisBanana 28 April 2020 Yeah, Ninjanope is off doing other things. The one to check on is jigidy, who is my mother. The problem there is that she doesn't make any puzzles! But I'm back now - starting out slowly, but I'm back, so you can leave messages with ME from now on! brightspark 28 April 2020 WELL - I sure am happy to see you again - you have been missed ☺♥☺ Sorry you been having a hard time with your health - have always kept you close in prayer!! I even checked ninjanope to see if i could find you ... but also went away ☻☻ ElvisBanana 28 April 2020 I've been okay. I'm fighting the good fight when it comes to my health, so that takes effort, but mostly I just got out of the habit and never got back into it. I've been missing all my Jigidi buddies, so I thought I'd come back now. brightspark 28 April 2020 @ElvisBanana - where have you been, how have you been and how are you ♥♥ WELCOME BACK xxxxx brightspark 7 April 2020 hugs on my birthday my friend ♥♥ brightspark 29 March 2020 xxxx brightspark 27 February 2020 ♥♥♥ sparklightie 3 February 2020 ♥☺♥ brightspark 14 January 2020 xx sparklightie 5 January 2020 xx brightspark 26 December 2019 Happy Christmas my friend - God Bless you wherever you are ♥♥♥ sparklightie 31 October 2019 Happy Halloween my friend ♥☻♥ brightspark 15 October 2019 hi there - ☺☺☺ thought of you today ♥ sparklightie 5 October 2019 Gods Blessings My Friend - I miss you ♥♥ brightspark 25 August 2019 ♥♥♥ sparklightie 12 August 2019 Hugs to you wherever you may be my friend ♥♥♥ brightspark 27 July 2019 @ElvisBanana so sad that you gone away my friend xx god bless wherever you are ♥♥ big hugs brightspark 23 July 2019 miss you ☻☻☻ brightspark 17 July 2019 prayers coming your way yet again my friend - so wish to hear you are okay ♥ @ElvisBanana brightspark 13 July 2019 oh sweet @Bubble - I truly pray so xx hugs dear @ElvisBanana - and bubble and i hope to see you soon xx god bless and hugs ♥☺♥ Bubble 11 July 2019 This is a lovely puzzle Elvis - you've taken a lot of trouble over it - see you soon. Your original tag on the puzzle is actually in my notifications. I've just been offline for a few days so I haven't solved it yet. I'm slowly working my way through the notifications, and I'll be solving your game reserve puzzle soon... brightspark 13 May 2019 posted a puzzle of the game reserve @brightspark xx have a look xxx sparklightie 12 May 2019 Hi my dear @ElvisBanana - oh we had such a wonderful time with good friends xx saw lots of animals, went for long walks (not in in the game reserve ☺☺ that could have been deadly) one day we saw 44 different species of buck (all at one time was pheneomenal) as well as a troop of monkeys!! We did 4 real puzzles and just chilled out - hope you are well ♥♥♥♥ happy mother's day to your dear mom ♥♥♥ ElvisBanana 8 May 2019 Well, it was worth asking.I suppose for most people from urban centers of your country it's still a thrill to see your native wildlife. I know I'd NEVER get tired of it! I feel that way about the fauna of North America. It can be such a treat to watch the birds chase after intruders, some small mammal trying to gather some food, or a big old mama bear tromping through the woods with her cubs. I can't imagine how that must be when you're looking at elephants, giraffes, and aardwolves! You'll probably be done with your trip by the time you read this, but I hope you enjoy the remainder of your journey! brightspark 7 May 2019 Hi sweet @ElvisBanana xx hubby no way xx we at the game reserve with very dear friends .. till friday xx seen lots of animals and late afternoon my friend mary and i have been solving real puzzles, the guys been watching .... cricket xx tomorrow we start our third one xxx i have no computer access here xx hugs ElvisBanana 2 May 2019 @sparklightieIs there any chance you could convince hubby to join us in this fantastic endeavor? We (or I, or you) could create a puzzle(s) asking people to present their top 3 reasons to solve puzzles on Jigidi. I bet you'd get some great replies that I'd never come up with in a dozen years... ElvisBanana 2 May 2019 @Bill_I_AmThanks for that endorsement! sparklightie 1 May 2019 oh elvis you said it perfectly my friend!!!! i get what you mean about the alignment - when i do a real puzzle - i take out all the edges from the box first and do that(usually one or two confounds me and stays hidden)- then seperate into piles of colours or patterns or writing or whatever takes my fancy and that i really enjoy ☺☺ but one has to turn them over and that is a pain xx we have done lots of puzzles that have a piece or 2 or more missing and that is pretty frustrating ☻☻for the first 2 years on jigidi i just solved - so many in a day and then i learnt how to post and wow a whole new world opened up to me - hubby refuses to do it on the computer prefers the real thing!!! and of course : Our friendship is priceless and treasured ♥♥♥ Bill_I_Am 1 May 2019 Amen to that, Mr. Banana! ElvisBanana 1 May 2019 It's true that REAL jigsaw puzzles are fun, but there are a few things about Jigidi puzzles that I prefer. The first is that the pieces are already oriented in the correct alignment. Sometimes, I'd rather have the real jigsaw puzzle experience, but most of the time, I like that the pieces are aligned. That way, I can do more puzzles! The second is that the users get to create the puzzles. It's so much more fun that way, and it means that Jigidi has an endless supply of content. The third is that I'll never lose a piece from a Jigidi puzzle! There must be millions of jigsaw puzzles out there that are "ruined" because of missing pieces! Finally, the very best thing about the Jigidi experience is getting to make new friends with people from throughout the world! The odds of the two of us meeting at some random café are pretty low, but I'm so happy we've been able to become Jigidi friends!!! brightspark 30 April 2019 hi elvi banani xxxxxxxx cute!! glad you enjoyed my vintage one x ilove doing those - wish i could do them for real in 1000 puzzles xx ☺♥☺ ElvisBanana 27 April 2019 @hobocat13Thanks for dropping by, solving the puzzle (and making it onto the Leaderboard!), and leaving your nice comment. On this one, I wondered if I should engage in my typical "creative naming" process. I figured that the title I gave it would work best here on Jigidi. On my computer, where I created the image, I titled it "Elvi Banani". This, of course, would be the "Latin(-esque)" form... :7D ElvisBanana 27 April 2019 @brightsparkI just finished the vintage puzzle. It's great! Thanks so much. hobocat13 25 April 2019 Thank you ElvisBanana for a fun filled puzzle! Love all the different Elvis' and the multi colored bananas brightspark 23 April 2019 tuesday one @sparklightie xxx brightspark 23 April 2019 hugs back to you dear friend xxxx ♥☺♥ posted a vintage challenge if you interested as well as a tuesday challenge xx ☺☺☺ ElvisBanana 23 April 2019 @brightsparkNew York is certainly a great place to see such diversity. It really is a great slice of the American life. At the same time, you can go to some places where I'd swear the residents have never seen a person of color in their entire lives!I think I just solved that special puzzle. Your grandsons look like they all enjoy one another! Thanks for the tag! brightspark 22 April 2019 when we went to new york we were wondering where all the americans were - we saw so many other nationalities in the shops and on the streets was quite incredible ☺☺☺ i tagged you in on a special puzzle dear friend xx ♥☺♥ ElvisBanana 21 April 2019 That's so interesting!!!Here, many languages are spoken. The most widely used language outside of English would have to be Spanish. With so many immigrants from all over the globe, you can find people who speak Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Hebrew, Portuguese, French, Afrikaans, a whole host of Native American languages, and so forth. However, the only language that is officially recognized is English. That seems rather silly considering the diversity of our population. In many places, documents are available in English or Spanish, but you'd be hard-pressed to find something like a job application in Zulu!!! brightspark 20 April 2019 ☺☺☺ i did not vote for our elvis blue ☻☻☻☻ but he sings in both our main languages - English and Afrikaans so he had quite a large following - actually we have 11 : english ,afrikaans, then 9 black languages : ndebele, sepedi, xhosa, venda, tswana, southern sotho, zulu, swazi, tsonga ElvisBanana 18 April 2019 @brightspark@Bill_I_AmI only now looked at the leaderboard. You two are numbers ONE and TWO! Great job!I'm way down in fifth place, but one of my other names is Blind Guy... ElvisBanana 18 April 2019 @brightsparkI didn't know about Elvis Blue until yesterday. I was looking for famous Elvises (or is that Elvi?) for this puzzle. I was surprised to see so many guys named Elvis out there! I chose these guys because I'm actually aware of who they are. The only other Elvis I knew about prior to yesterday is the Canadian figure skater, Elvis Stojko. Since I had two singing Elvises, I liked the balance of having two (American) football-playing Elvises.Do you like Elvis Blue's music? I'll have to find him on YouTube and check him out. Thanks for coming by! It's always good to "see" you!!! ElvisBanana 18 April 2019 @Bill_I_AmThanks for dropping by and leaving your comment. It is indeed a Bananarama! Or an Elvisaganza... brightspark 17 April 2019 Hello my friend, Hello ☺ I love your fun psychedelic puzzle and can you believe we have an Elvis too - Elvis Blue who won the South African Idols one year xxx Bill_I_Am 17 April 2019 It's Bananarama!
