The baby looks like the turkey is the biggest thing in the world. "I have to eat all that?"

Thank you all for your memories and comments. My mother was in the hospital and my father didn't want us to miss out on the holiday turkey. I'm the one with my hands over my face.

My parents had split and for some reason my father thought my 17-year-old self knew how to roast a bird. Being a good girl, I washed it off and put it in the oven as he told me. I had no idea what the bag of stuff was in the middle of the thing when I cut/ripped it up. I guess I cooked it enough because I don't remember any of us getting deathly ill. My mother didn't cook turkeys, her mother always did it for big family meals and all was done when we got there. I did teach myself how to do it properly in later years, but I still remember the surprise of that white paper inside the cavity...Sherry :)))_

when i was growing up we didn't have a big dinner
we eat what we had and was thankful for it
when i got married i didn't know how to cook a turkey
i boiled it

yahooligan!!!??? I'm a city girl, we don't eat our pets...and I remember friends who lived on farms crying when they talked about their pets hitting the market or their own tables...Sherry :(((

yahooligan...you take that back...and although the look on the baby's face might make one think so, thank goodness the baby is too young to have been able to raise it that year, and since all the other girls are very happy, got to assume it wasn't any of theirs either... Sherry :)))

Another nice old family photo! Thanks for sharing!

Actually, with the baby, I was thinking she was thinking, what the heck is that and why is everyone getting so excited...Sherry :)))

The expression on the baby'a face might be, "I have to eat that whole turkey?"

In 1947 people were just getting used to having real food again...that turkey must have looked like a magic gift... Sherry :)))
