Why are you reporting this puzzle?

I felt a sense of doom about my vacation yesterday when I got a call at 6:30 yesterday morning from my MIL saying my FIL had collapsed and was totally unresponsive! When the EMTs got there his blood sugar was 28 (very very low!!). So they took him to the hospital and his kidneys had totally shut down and there was blood in his urine and stool! He's in ICU and starting dialysis 3x a week.
So he needs your prayers, as do I!!
At 4:30 this morning,
Liz and I were loading the car when I stepped into a hole next to the water meter in the front yard and my left leg went in up to my knee, scraping it badly. So by reflex I used my left arm to try and stop me from going in any farther. I kept going but my arm didn't!! I thought I had just pulled something but by the time I'd gotten to mom's the pain was so bad I couldn't stand it!!
When they x-rayed my shoulder, I had pretty much destroyed the whole shoulder!! So I have an appointment with a surgeon and find out how soon they will operate.
Needless to say I cancelled the trip until I'm healed in 6-8 weeks!! And the pain is kicking my ass right now!!
When I know more I will let you all know.
Joey & I now have matching slings!
I took a huge dose of Percocet just so I could type this (one handed) and am going to TRY and rest!!
More later.
~Joe~

CJ45

Hi Maggs.

mackabroin

wjl1015

2019 will be a better year for us all!! :))

MaggieMay_MMM

Joe ~ I am SO sorry to hear you have had to go through all this pain and suffering (on so many levels) as if you haven't gone through enough already!! (We are communicating personally as you know, and I will comment more on our page). It seems time that things just have to get better in the new year! You are always in my thoughts and my wand waves harder and harder. Love, Maggie

LinM

A friend of mine has received weekly dialysis for about a year now, BTW. He manages going through it well and I believe that it is giving him a much higher quality of life.

wjl1015

Thank you Donna!! :))

Lin, I had Liz put all my guitars up in their cases so I wasn't being taunted by them!! :))

LinM

I'm so glad to hear that Joey and your FIL are improving! And you, too! I hope that with your surgery behind you, your focus can once again become working your way back to playing that new guitar. From years of observation, it seems to me that musicians are an especially resourceful lot. I believe that you will have what you need on your journey back to vibrancy. May each day be easier than the last!

wjl1015

Joey broke his clavicle and is doing very well! My FIL is out of the hospital and in a rehab center. He's on dialysis 3x a week and is stabilized for now. I saw him Monday and he looks 100% better!!

LinM

Awesome! I'd lost track of how long I've been "away." So glad that is behind you. How is Joey doing? (I never actually figured out what he had been faced with, but it must have been something for the two of you to be "2 of a kind.") And I'm hoping that your father-in-law has stabilized/improved.

wjl1015

Perfect timing Lin!! I had my surgery, replacing the whole joint since it was shattered, last Thursday. It's a very slow healing/rehab process, but with patience and prayers it will heal nicely. :))

LinM

I've been away for awhile, tho it appears that I'm back in time to send prayers your way for good results from surgery/rehab. Good luck, Joe! I hope it goes very smoothly and that your recovery is speedier and even better than anticipated. I see your ease and health returning soon, so that you can turn your attention to better things. Blessings to you!

rswestley

Lib... I haven't seen you around for a very long time! Glad you are well and in good spirits

PutterDutt

A grin to LibR1. Great attitude.

LibR1

Joe, Joe, Joe . . . I'm only gone a short time and you forget how to take care of yourself! I can't remember if I told you all my stroke was a nervous breakdown. I feel much better now, I just need to slow down, breathe, and enjoy my life. My doctor would rather i exercise in there somewhere but I worked so long to get my shape-round!!

wjl1015

I will find out, they're coming over this evening, :))

mackabroin

I was also wondering how thankful joey was when his grandad decided to share his "condition"......lol....that was a great sacrifice from you joe....(just a bit of humor to take your mind off the pain)
take care of you joe

okieclem

Joe, I'll just echo Robin. Best of everything with pre-op check and the surgery tomorrow -- you *KNOW* you've got a huge cheering section here! ♥☺♥☺♥

All the best hopes for Liz and her dad, too.

wjl1015

Thank you Robin, John & Ken! Going to my family doctor today to get clearance for surgery on Thursday. :))

mackabroin

I think there is enough "good" advice on this page already joe...I am just praying that you can get all the help you need with as few meds as possible and get that shoulder into something as comfortable as possible for the duration......you have a long road ahead of you joe.....just do what the dr says and wait it out...I am so sorry this has happened to you.....and to liz......be good..lol

rswestley

Be sure to keep us posted on how the trip to the surgeon went today. If the Doctor gives you any trouble let me know... I have three voodoo doctor dolls ready and waiting for their pins...

klocowolf

You are just not getting a break Joe. From one pain pan to another, Not good at all! I wish I could take it for you. But it seems that's not to be.

wjl1015

Thank you!! :))

Watchman

Sending many prayers! ;-)

PutterDutt

A LOL to Liz!

dustydog

: (

manicpuzzler

I wish that there was something we could suggest to alleviate the pain Joe. All I can do is send some healing vibes :)

wjl1015

I know, not much can be said or done to help. Liz keeps telling mt to eat more candy....but I think she's just trying to shut me up!! LOL :))

PutterDutt

I wish I knew what to say or do to help.

wjl1015

My mind wouldn't stop, kept thinking what if I have to wait till Friday??? I can't stand it that long!!!

PutterDutt

:o(

wjl1015

Ken, I use the medical to help me relax so (maybe) I can get some sleep. Didn't work so well tonight though......

klocowolf

Everybody's got it all wrong. Mellow tone in, is to set the mood. Pot will be legal here soon so enjoy a meal. No other drugs needed but if your currently out, about 4 fingers of a really quality hooch, from your local moonshiner, will put you in the right frame mind to visit the stars.

manicpuzzler

You are certainly in the wars!

wjl1015

:))

PutterDutt

Yes.

wjl1015

Aren't you glad you asked??

manicpuzzler

OMG!!!

dustydog

Joe, I've had you and your entire family in my prayers for awhile now.....Not going to quit now!
Dusty : |

PutterDutt

Same here, Joe, as well as your loving wife, who is probably stretched to the breaking point right now.....

wjl1015

Thank you!

pasta

He is all ready on mine, your whole family is.♥♥

wjl1015

Thank you all so much for your caring and prayers!! Please add my FIL to your list, I really don't think he has very long.....

Isaly

Continued prayers coming your way Joe.....

jals

Glad you got the recliner, Joe!

6toedcats

I got to thinking about this, and agree with okieclem, they do need to wait for the swelling from the trauma to subside so that they can put everything back together again in the right spot. That does nothing to negate the pain and frustration you must be feeling though. Prayers with you, and I hope the painkillers you've got will get you through the worst of it, and allow for some sleep.

Jumble

I must admit, I thought America were very advanced in medicine, and most of the best doctors/surgeons in the world practised there. Surely a break/fracture has to be dealt with ASAP. ♥

PutterDutt

I watch TV shows about Veterinarians a lot and my first thought when I saw this Xray was SCREWS to stabilize the break. I'm not a doctor, BUT I have very firm opinions about a being left in excruciating pain for no good reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wjl1015

Thank you Donna & Iris!!! :))

irisriver

still sending you prayers Joe!♥

wjl1015

Me either Clive!

CJ45

Goodness me an ambulance would have been called here in the UK with fully trained paramedics to help you then send you to hospital for emergency treatment and an operation, you will need screws to put your shoulder back together again and to leave broken bones is a serious condition that can leave you with all sorts of problems. I am not a Doctor but an engineer but I still do not understand why your professionals do not understand the severity of your condition.

wjl1015

Because, they said I'd already been treated in an ER and had a plan of treatment!! No excuses for being so RUDE!!!!!

CJ45

Oh dear me Sir Joe you would never be treated like that in the UK, how disgusting to leave you with broken bones. It can be quite serious to leave you with such an injury.!!
My thoughts and best wishes for you to have an operation.
Why are they not treating you I ask. ?

wjl1015

I am too! They got me back right away, but I didn't see a doctor or MA for over 90 minutes and then she treated me like crap!! I did get a recliner to sleep in an got about 6 hours (not consecutive) but that felt good since I hadn't slept since Tuesday night!!!

jals

Sorry Joe!

okieclem

Hopefully you are sleeping some now, Joe, albeit probably fitfully :((( What a thankless, miserable ordeal! I'm really surprised that you weren't evaluated & given something for the pain at least. As for doing anything else right now, I'm thinking that they're waiting for the initial swelling to subside. All in all, though -- this is a d***able situation.

*Very* gentle hugs coming your way. ♥♥♥

pasta

Hang in there, Joe.♥♥

Surreal_Heidi

How awful!!! I'd have thought that they would have at least given you some better pain relief.... like knock you out on morphine for a while to give you a good night's sleep.

PutterDutt

Ah, Joe. NOT what we were hoping and praying for......

I'm so sorry, Joe...I hope you're sleeping for a while now...I'm praying and sending very gentle non-hugs...Sherry :)))

Jumble

OMG, I can't believe you are not having your shoulder operated on NOW, It leaves me speechless they have sent you home, didn't they even give you some excellent pain killers?

6toedcats

What? I'm unimpressed, although not being a medic, I'm not sure what they can do before surgery occurs. Hang in there. My brother had shoulder surgery last week which seemingly went well, I need to call him Tues after his follow up.

wjl1015

I'm back home, they didn't do a thing!!

wshealy

Bless your heart, Joe. I pray someone will help you get some relief from your pain. Wanda

jals

Sorry Joe! I hope they get to you sooner, rather than later.

redina1

Fingers crossed, Joe, that something 'constructive' will happen!

wjl1015

Here I sit waiting in the hospital for a damn doctor I took my vitals an hour ago and I'm still sitting here

Surreal_Heidi

❤️

PutterDutt

:o)

wjl1015

I sure will Judy!! And thank you ALL for your kindness and prayers!! Love and hugs to all!! :))

jals

Glad to hear you're getting a recliner! Good decision.
Please let us know when you can if you get any help at the E.R.
Good Luck, Joe!

Surreal_Heidi

I'm SO glad you decided to go to the ER, Joe. Maybe they can put pressure on a surgeon to help you now.

wjl1015

I will!

PutterDutt

Good for you, Joe!!!!! Let us know how the ER goes.

wjl1015

I took the good advise from a couple people here and am getting a recliner delivered today!! As soon as they leave, I'm going to the ER!!

jals

I hope you get some help soon, Joe!

wjl1015

Vent all you like Dusty!! I have been all day.

dustydog

Joe......You mean, you have to WAIT??! That's ridiculous! For crying out loud, I bet I could get my dog into an emergency hospital,, and he'd be cared for right away! I just cannot believe that with the pain you are having, it should be taken care of immediately! (Not days and weeks later, while "they" discuss things.) I'm sorry 'bout the ranting here, but with what you are going through, there has to be something besides having them give you pain meds, and told you have to wait. I hate it, when people like you are treated this way.
Dusty : (

pasta

Hang in there Joe. Wish I had a magic word to make you feel better, this really sucks. Can't believe you have to wait. Thoughts, prayers, and good vibes, a soft hug...♥♥♥

wjl1015

Thank you Ellen!!

PutterDutt

A very gentle hug to you, my Friend.

wjl1015

I'll let you know John! I'm waiting for a call from the doc to see if they can get me in sooner, if they can't I'm going to the hospital ER!! I can't take it, the pain, any more!!

rswestley

Joe, I wouldn't do this for everyone, but if time is of the essense, I could probably work you in on Saturday... right after the Arizona State game.... and before Finding Nemo starts.

wjl1015

I agree Heidi!!

Surreal_Heidi

I can't wait to see the post surgical x-ray. I wish Joe didn't have to wait until Monday just to see the surgeon. In my opinion, this is an emergency and the surgeon should be operating on him NOW.

PutterDutt

I keep expecting to see signs of improvement on this Xray. Wishful thinking I guess....

CJ45

Oh dear Sir Joe back in the wars again just after your latest operation as well this is going to hurt.
Sorry to hear about your FIL. Please all of you take your time to get better.
Thank you for the TAG jeri.

rswestley

How are you doing Sophia? Oops... Sparkliest, my mistake! Now that you've had your eyes worked on, you look just like Sophia Loren. I hope all is well and you are recovering nicely. I must say you are braver than I... I'm not sure if I would want someone messing around with my eyes. If I lost my "ayes" all I would have left is my "nays"... and I'm not really a negative person. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for one of the Sparkliest stars in the Jigidi sky...

sparklightie

join the club - i was typing this one eyed xxxxxxx

sparklightie

jals

ha ha Max. I would take a bow but don't want to lose my balance and fall on my butt. Too many injuries on this page already.
Thanks Ellen!

Judy,
Good information! My son broke his arm a couple years ago and I remember he fashioned a little nest on the couch for himself with pillows all around for his arm to rest on.

jude4now

I broke my right arm at the shoulder nearly 3 years ago. A conventional sling was not very comfortable, but a "collar and cuff" sling worked better than drugs for me. The variety I had suspended my arm from the neck (collar) part with a cuff around the wrist. Gravity held the arm in the Pledge of Allegiance position across the chest with the hand held relatively high near the collarbone. If you cannot get this type of sling, I highly recommend simply resting your arm in this position. It takes the weight off the joint and allows your chest to support most of it. Good luck.

PutterDutt

A+ to Judy!

Max_Tooney

Ha! Well played, jals. Well played.

jals

Recapping for our friend, Joe.
1.) Avoid Ambien
2.) Avoid Max_Tooney
3.) Hide your guitars and keyboard

dustydog

So many things out there, and it seems as though the "side effects" are almost worse that whatever your problem is! Scares me spitless sometimes!
Dusty's Mom

Max_Tooney

Recapping for our e-friend Joe:
1) Avoid Ambien; try Melatonin instead, but use NEITHER in conjunction with Chantix.
2) Allow Max to take possession of your guitars and keyboard.
3) Profit

PutterDutt

I get wierd dreams from even Ibuprophen. Depressing when I'm heading to bed and know that the hurt won't stop....
