Born on this day, American record producer, arranger, pianist and composer Richard Carpenter The Carpenters who had the 1973 UK No.2 single 'Yesterday Once More' and the 1970 US No.1 & UK No.6 single 'Close To You'. The Carpenters 1972 hit 'Goodbye to Love' was one of the first pop ballads to have a fuzz guitar solo and influenced the development of the power ballad.

she sure did joe.......it was so sad....she had everything to live for....well...she had her brother and a good voice and a lot of fans.......odd why people would kill themselves (to me)

He's a great pianist! I remember seeing his Christmas special not long after his sister Karen's death. I never thought he was such a good musician. I loved The Carpenters. I still have cassettes of them :) Thanks Joe :)

I liked "close to you".......these two weren't my favs.....but they did have a lovely sound.....and I liked the goodbye love also......thanks joe.......HB.lol

I liked the Carpenters, but "Close to You" was the theme song at a prom I went to. NOT a good memory. Great harmonies, though.
