A collection of Stanley Dry Plates found by Christoph Traugott in the bottom of a big box of vintage Christmas decorations at an antique store in Joy, Illinois. Joy is a small village in Mercer County, Illinois, in-between New Boston and Aledo, 25 miles southeast of Muscatine, Iowa.

Such a great slice of life in this photo. You can figure out many things... it was cold!! They had their own hunting beagle that was Almost part of the family (it was squirming, unused to being held), but it was an important part of their hunting life. The boys with the guns are holding their trigger hands/fingers under cover, so they must have had the fingers cut off their gloves...these were no hobby hunters, probably most of the meat they ate came from hunting. Possibly that fur stole was from their own traps, too. I like these old photos, Ed. Thanks for finding them for us. --Merrie
