It does seem likely that she hauled coal trucks, so you make a very good point.

I just read Bon Accord described as a tramway locomotive, Terry, so what you say makes perfect sense. Apparently when visiting Beamish in late 2016 she displayed skirts for only the 4th time since preservation.

I'm assuming the loco was named in honour of the ancient motto of Aberdeen and not the local football club or shopping center?

Also, did she haul coal trucks without skirts along the highway which sort of defeats the object?

I seem to remember hearing that the loco spent much of it's time on tracks cut into the roadway. Thus the skirts were fitted to help stop vehicles getting underneath it.
