This is such a nice wibbly wobbly thatched cottage with big chimneys Joyce and how amazing is that that it survives today seeing what it's made out of. Thanks you again waxwing for the interesting snippet. After all these years I'm still learning bits of history about my country and I'm glad you all find it interesting too and enjoy my puzzles. Thank you everyone...Sue

Great picture!! Love the chimneys!!! This house looks a bit wonky but apparently is well put together!!! Thanks Sue for a great puzzle & thanks waxwing for answering my questions before I asked. LOL :)))))))

Thanks Waxwing for the snippet - I truly enjoy Sue's puzzles because of the history and education I receive from them, as well as the pleasure I get from solving such great puzzles and pictures!

Thanks for the history of these types of houses, we love these puzzles because we don't have anything like them here! Thanks for these pics, Sue

A very pretty house. It looks well cared for and recently painted so that only the chimney hints at it's age. Thanks for sharing the "wattle and daub" info waxwing!

"Peasants lived in cruck houses. These had a wooden frame onto which was plastered wattle and daub. This was a mixture of mud, straw and manure. The straw added insulation to the wall while the manure was considered good for binding the whole mixture together and giving it strength. The mixture was left to dry in the sun and formed what was a strong building material."
