Wollemia nobilis (Wollemi Pine) is a living fossil 200 million-year-old. It was rediscovered and identified in 1994 in the sandstone rocks of NSW, Australia. Of this extremely rare endemic plant grows in the wild only less than 200 trees that are strictly protected. The Mount Tomah Botanic Garden in Blue Mountains is running a rescue program, which includes the collecting of seeds. In the photos you can see this process up close.
Good news .. amazing Australian firefighters managed to protect these trees from being destroyed during catastrophic bushfires.
