A portrait of Princess Adetutu Ademiluyi, was painted in 1974 by the Nigerian artist Ben Enwonwu and is one of three similar paintings by the artist. The other two paintings have not been found. Media reports have compared it to the “Mona Lisa.” It was recently discovered in a North London apartment, & will be auctioned by Bonhams in London on Feb. 28, 2018. It has a pre-sale estimate of 200,000 to 300,000 U.K. pounds ($280,702 to $421,053).

Thank you for visiting & commenting Janet, Spaklies & Nan. Spaklies, I thought of you right away when I saw this painting, & wondered if you had heard of it. The Princess looks lovely & graceful. She was (is?) of the Yoruba tribe, in Ife, an ancient city in southwest Nigeria. This find is being called “most significant discovery in contemporary African art in over 50 years”, & holds special significance in Nigeria as a symbol of national reconciliation after the 1967-1970 Biafran War. Sadly, Princess "Tutu" passed away in 1994.
