Actually, A/C was available on cars back then but not many people bought and station wagons were much harder to cool because of the open cargo area with all those windows. One of my other cars I posted here was a 1956 Lincoln with factory air.
Beautiful, four door hardtop, woody station wagon, with quad headlights, fancy fins, and wrap up windshield. Boy what style. Too bad they didn't make many of them. Or at least there aren't many left.
