Can you guess which languages are used here? Check back in a few days, and I'll tell you...

Thanks, Bill! I appreciate your asking.

It certainly hasn't been bad at all. I had a geography professor (who was also a family friend) who would speak of "the mollifying effects of the ocean". Because of those "mollifying effects" it rarely gets too bad around here, hot OR cold.

We did have some snow and ice, but it didn't last long. I've heard there's more to come, but I have a suspicion that the weathermen just need something to talk about. They think it's more fun to warn people of the possibility of a 4-DAY SNOWSTORM than it is to just say it's going to be cold with rain and some snow at higher elevations.

See you soon! Or, as they say in Esperanto, "Ĝis baldaŭ!"

Bill_I_Am

I meant to comment that you also have had more cold weather than you're used to--and snow, too! Hope it hasn't been too much inconvenience.

@spaklies

Thank you, my friend! I was busy, but thought of you and my other Jigidi friends every day...

@Bill_I_Am

I'm glad you made it through the vortex! Also glad that you can receive a paycheck again!

spaklies

so glad all well with you my friend ☺☺☺☺ happy hugs

Bill_I_Am

Thanks, Elvis. I teleworked for one of our two days of the polar vortex. That was about it.

ElvisBanana

It's nice to see you, Bill. I've been so busy lately that I haven't made it to Jigidi. But I've been hoping that folks like you who live in cold places were able to make it through the recent deep freeze. It looks like you didn't get the worst of that polar vortex, but it still got pretty cold in Denver. I'm glad you're thawed out enough to make it to Jigidi!

LOL Elvis!

@brightspark

You're such a dear!!! It's so thoughtful of you to ask, and to check in on me. I'm doing fine, I've just been very busy. I FINALLY found some time to catch up with the goings-on here at jigidi...

No worries, Elvis. I knew you selected languages that had connections for you. As I did in my choices. There are a bunch more that I think are really cool looking, like Armenian, Amharic, Malayalam and Myanmar (Burmese). But they're Greek to me! :-)

ElvisBanana

Thanks, Bill!

Hindi and Sinhala are definitely beautiful languages, at least the written words are.

I had a hard time deciding which languages to use and which to leave out. In the end, I chose this particular group of languages because of personal or familial connections to them. For example, I think you already know that I speak a smattering of Portuguese, so it's here. I don't speak more than a handful of French words, but my sister does.

I decided to keep the list of languages fairly short, but perhaps I'll make a bigger one for the next occasion. If I do, I'll try to remember to use Hindi and Sinhala...

I'm glad you think this is a fun idea!

Bill_I_Am

Sorry, I'm just seeing this now. It's such a fun idea for people of a linguistic bent--and even for those who aren't. I'll add one more, since it's a favorite language and so pretty. Make that two more. :-) Thanks, Elvis.

I didn't want to leave anybody wondering. "Puzzle within a puzzle" is a good way to put it! I didn't even think about that when I made this. I just figured that I'm enough of a linguistic nerd that this would make a fun puzzle. Apparently, there are seven people in the entire jigidiverse who agree with me...

I'm glad you're one of them, my friend!

brightspark

thx for solving the puzzle within a puzzle for me ♥♥♥

ElvisBanana

For anyone who solved this puzzle, and is curious about the languages used, I'll list them now. I know, with the flood of people who have solved this puzzle, it's likely that I'll be giving away the secret, but with 8 solves (one of those was ME) I figured I'd better release the information. That's a LOT of people whom I wouldn't want to keep waiting... :-P

From left to right, across the top, there is:
Japanese, Portuguese, Esperanto, and Hawaiian
Obviously, English
Greek, French, Arabic, Icelandic, and Spanish.

Right back at you, brightspark!

Wishing you a Very Happy New Year in all the Languages to make sure it is a good one for you and your family dear friend ☺♥☺
