My friend's son languishes in a city school but he does have a teacher's aid (we call them TAs) who works with him. I met him when he was two, and he was "non-verbal" then, but now he's come a long way since then. He's quite talkative now, even if the conversations are usually about trucks and movies. Sometimes (and even more surprisingly) he will say a line from a movie at exactly the right moment. My cousin took us to the trains that he works on at the railway. He took us all around the trains, and in the trains, and for a ride on the train. Then the little guy says "Well, Stephen, it's been real. It's been fun. It's been REAL FUN!" (It's a line from a Pee Wee Herman movie). The way Owen said it and the big grin on his face was priceless. Stephen and I still chuckle about it.

A FUN puzzle, as always. There is a school for Autistic children across the street from my Condo Association and we take candy to "Trick or Treat" them on Halloween. Susan

Well, thank you.I really enjoy the company of children - but I'm glad they have parents I can send them home to when I run out of energy. I guess that's why the "aunt" role suits me so well. ;)

You are a very special lady who has a special way with the young ones. It's so nice to know you! :)

My friend has a nine year old son who is on the autism spectrum. Whenever I babysit, we turn my family room into his secret "fort". He then curls up with his weighted blanket and we watch movies.Sometimes, he has to read to me (because he has difficulty and needs the practice) before we can watch Netflix or Prime. I can keep him entertained for a good hour on sunny days, by checking out some parking lots and letting him read the name of the vehicles ( Ford, Dodge, Charger, Chrysler Honda, Mitsubishi, etc. He's right more often than he's wrong. I realize that he recognizes the make and model, but now he can spell all these names, too.
But, yes, forts are great for people - big or small!

I'd love to have a little private nest like that for some "me" time. He's got the right idea! :)
