Why are you reporting this puzzle?

My cousin discovered this photo of my dad's VW. This would have been the summer of 1961 right after we finished fixing it up. He paid $200 for it. It had a 36 hp air cooled engine and 4 sp manual trans. The interior was pretty bare bones. He made a ceiling and door panels out of Masonite, stuffed the doors and ceiling cavity with fiberglass insulation, and attached the panels with sheet metal screws. He found that middle seat in a junk yard and the seat backs would fully recline so that it could be made into a full size bed. He made a hammock that hung above the front driver and passenger seats for my 2 year old sister to sleep in. My mom made window curtains that were attached with springs top and bottom that were held in by clips. In the daytime, they just hung by the bottom spring as in this photo. At night, you just raised them up over the window and attached the ends of the spring to the clips. It was all blue when he got it, but had the roof painted white to cut down on heat absorption because it had no A/C. With the red and white striped curtains it looked very patriotic! My dad and mom with three kids camped our way from Maryland to California and back that summer. I remember it being pretty hot in the desert south west in August. @mr_51_vic_ss can probably attest to that. That trip had a huge impact on me and had a lot to do with why I have relocated to the south west.

the next generation T2 was the one I grew up traveling in from Germany all across south eastern europe..must have been a 70s model then. Like your dad, my dad would also build the interior by himself. The T2 was followed by a T3 (which I liked best, square 80s) and later by a slow '92 Ford Transit Diesel which I hated.

Thanks!

was hoping you were going to make that into a puzzle! Thanks Gary!

I got it Gary, thanks.
It is warm here, but I like the warm more than the cold.
Pat.
