Never mind Julie and Heidi, onwards and upwards :))

Surreal_Heidi

Thanks Max.
I didn't get a point.

Mariposamia

No point.

hippo

Great finish to that vid! :))

Max_Tooney

The 'Red Stockings' would be the anatomically correct name of the Cincinnati Reds ;-)

Max_Tooney

Ha, great video! My favorite thing about being poor is that I don't have to worry about such things.

racoonstar

So Max. Who's Your Daddy?

https://youtu.be/TVRzk3VWOKY

(sometimes you make it so easy! :D)

Surreal_Heidi

I thought it was the Red Stockings. Do I get any credit at all?

Never mind Max, onwards and upwards :))

Max_Tooney

I incorrectly guessed the Yankees. The Cubs were my second guess.

nanab

Yes! I grew up in Massachusetts.

And the answer is................Boston Americans (Boston Red Sox)

The Boston Red Sox are an American professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Red Sox compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. The Red Sox have won nine World Series championships, tied for the third-most of any MLB team, and they have played in 13. Their most recent appearance and win was in 2018. In addition, they won the 1904 American League pennant, but were not able to defend their 1903 World Series championship when the New York Giants refused to participate in the 1904 World Series. Founded in 1901 as one of the American League's eight charter franchises, the Red Sox' home ballpark has been Fenway Park since 1912. The "Red Sox" name was chosen by the team owner, John I. Taylor, circa 1908, following the lead of previous teams that had been known as the "Boston Red Stockings", including the forerunner of the Atlanta Braves.
Boston was a dominant team in the new league, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903 and winning four more championships by 1918. However, they then went into one of the longest championship droughts in baseball history, dubbed the "Curse of the Bambino" after its alleged inception due to the Red Sox' sale of Babe Ruth to the rival New York Yankees two years after their world championship in 1918, an 86-year wait before the team's sixth World Championship in 2004. The team's history during that period was punctuated with some of the most memorable moments in World Series history, including Enos Slaughter's "mad dash" in 1946, the "Impossible Dream" of 1967, Carlton Fisk's home run in 1975, and Bill Buckner's error in 1986. Following their victory in the 2018 World Series, they became the first team to win four World Series trophies in the 21st century, with championships in 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018. Red Sox history has also been marked by the team's intense rivalry with the Yankees, arguably the fiercest and most historic in North American professional sports.
The Boston Red Sox are owned by Fenway Sports Group, which also owns Liverpool F.C. of the Premier League in England. The Red Sox are consistently one of the top MLB teams in average road attendance, while the small capacity of Fenway Park prevents them from leading in overall attendance.[6] From May 15, 2003 to April 10, 2013, the Red Sox sold out every home game—a total of 820 games (794 regular season) for a major professional sports record. Both Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", and The Standells's "Dirty Water" have become anthems for the Red Sox.

Oh, you heathen Bonnie!!

LOL you lot :)) :))

Does anyone stay awake at cricket?

racoonstar

My favorite baseball story is about going to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles California to see them play. I went with my father and my maternal grandfather. We were sitting on the first row of the second deck on the third base side. At some point in the game there was a foul pop fly coming in our direction. My grandpa stood up, leaned a little forward, and stuck his cup of beer out over the edge to catch the ball.

I should be mentioned that paper cups, regardless of what they are filled with, are not good implements to catch a descending baseball.

The ball went through the cup, dumping the remaining beer on the fans below, who were probably all looking up at the descending baseball.

Mariposamia

That'l be a new one for me!

Surreal_Heidi

No idea. I can guess, though. I do know the names of some of the early baseball teams. Oh well.

hippo

Hmm...

I am surprised it doesn't happen in cricket too...

Max_Tooney

Darwin visits the ballpark!

morepiecesplz

If you pay for a ticket, finally find a parking spot, and commit your time just to sit and text, you DESERVE to get hit in the face. Cull the herd!

Max_Tooney

It can be pretty dangerous. I always have to remind people to watch the ball at all times when the ball is in play. Nowadays you see so many people at the ballpark texting. No wonder so many get a line drive to the face.

I still remember the impact when the ball hit me in the nose 50 years ago...but could have hit me in the temple, I guess, if my father hadn't yelled, Look Out and I hadn't turned around...and my nose had already been bleeding...what a mess...Sherry :(((

Max_Tooney

Yep. I botched Coleridge earlier.

1) Bad day
3) No Profit

I'm enjoying watching Max screw-up... rare as Halley's Comet... but you stay up late to be sure you catch it...

PutterDutt

No clue. I don't do sports much.

Max_Tooney

He was a great player. But with the paternity issues, it was only appropriate that he ended up as a Padre.

racoonstar

My youngest sister was smitten by Steve Garvey when he was a Los Angeles Dodger.
She saw him play several times, and once got his autograph on her arm.

hippo

No. Never heard of either of the teams in that final... ho-hum...

At least my punt was an actual baseball team :))

Max_Tooney

EDIT: "Steve Garvey is NOT my Padre"

(memory is completely shot today)

Max_Tooney

"Steve Garvey was my Padre"

(A real bumper sticker, btw. racoonstar will probably get the reference))

manicpuzzler

LOL South west for a fair few miles then head west and keep going 'til you get to a lot of wet stuff!

racoonstar

Go Padres!

manicpuzzler

LOL Ardy I don't know what teams exist now!

Wiki is a wonderful thing :))

LOL Max, good one :))

Max_Tooney

"Darn"

Now I know. Tomorrow I will have forgotten.
Thank you, Wikipedia :)

ringleader

A bit before my time, Bonnie. LOL No idea what teams even existed then. Thanks.

manicpuzzler

Never mind Max, onwards and upwards :))

Well done, in advance BB:))

Yes it is strange Suemarie. Is that where the saying 'it's a small world' comes from LOL :))

Max_Tooney

Pooh! :::foot stomp:::

I should never miss a baseball question--but I did.

nanab

I'm pretty sure I know this one.

manicpuzzler

I couldn't name one team!

suemarie

I love my country, but it says a lot about our attitude that we would have named it a “World” Series when only American teams played in it...... LOL!

hippo

If I try an answer, please don't laugh it turns out to be a football or ice hockey or basketball team... :((

manicpuzzler

Another Darwin award…..
In another do-it-yourself project gone wrong, a 41-year-old homeowner attempting to demolish a large brick garden shed succeeded in his primary objective, but suffered collateral damage when the cement slab roof demolished him.
The unfortunate chap was alone on his property at the time. While one has to question the wisdom of undertaking a demolition project with no-one on hand in the event of a mishap, a neighbour happened to witness this 'mishap' and immediately summoned help. Hydraulic rams and high pressure air bags were too late to stop fate. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
In the unequal contest between flesh and stone, the stone always wins.
