The walk with Brenda was already cancelled due to the rain, but no, I wasn't able to usher last night. I slept for another two hours and my back is a bit better. I'm trying to be grateful that it isn't agony today, but it's so irritating that I can't even do something as basic as bend over to pick up the throw rugs and sweep the floors. And I can't sit here at the computer for more than a few minutes. The desk chair is supposed to be comfortable, and it's fine for a healthy back, but not right now!
I'm so VERY sorry!! I so very much hate a painful back!!! I hope you will get well soon!!! So no ushering and no walk with Brenda :(((( I understand your reasoning, but even though you don't use your garage for your car you apparently use it for something!! An automatic opener might be a very good idea!
It's beautiful, there is a nice blue sky out there at 11 a.m. Sunday morning, but it's not doing me any good. I wrenched my back lifting my garage door after work Friday. I spent all Friday evening and all day Saturday in bed, alternating a heating pad and an ice pack, trying to get the pain to go away. It was horrible. I went through all the medicines from different surgeries, but nothing helped. I could finally get up for a while this morning and stay upright long enough to take a shower and put on clean clothes. Then I rested for a while longer in bed and got up to do the dishes and check my computer. I'm going back to the heating pad for another hour or so now. And when I am well again I am going to look into getting an automatic garage door opener! It's a tiny one-car garage and I don't park the car in there so I never thought a door opener was worth the money. I have changed my mind!
P.S. : I hope your weekend did turn out (reasonably) dry, in the end.
:)))) That's quite a nice 'skill' to have. I wouldn't mind that : being able to see where someone recently urinated. No, I don't think kestrels eat birds, as far as I know they eat mammals and insects. Depends on a lot of things maybe.
It's still supposed to rain all weekend. :-( I'm sorry your kestrel didn't pose for you, but I think you should blame the pigeons. I was trying to find out if kestrels eat other birds (although a pigeon would be too big), and found this on All About Birds. Made me laugh!"Unlike humans, birds can see ultraviolet light. This enables kestrels to make out the trails of urine that voles, a common prey mammal, leave as they run along the ground. Like neon diner signs, these bright paths may highlight the way to a meal—as has been observed in the Eurasian Kestrel, a close relative."
I hope your weekend will turn out at least dry, and hopefully sunny. I'm glad you're having a good time with all your raptors, you lucky you. I've only seen a buzzard twice, both times too far for decent photos (but I may post them anyway) and in the polder I regularly see a female kestrel. But she too is always too far away, or too high up, for decent photos. I'm getting a bit fed up with her (noooo..not so fed up that I won't keep trying☺). Monday morning I saw her again, on a lamp post this time. Still much too far away, so I carefully neared her. And then a pigeon went and sat down on the post too, still quite a bit behind her. I held my breath, afraid the kestrel might leave, but she didn't. So a little bit closer I went. And then a second pigeon landed on the post, and a third, on the lamp, right behind her. And then she had enough and yelled at them and chased them away. Good for her!! But then she went and chased after them, and was out of sight in a few seconds! :((((( Her chasing them off was great, but that was enough wasn't it? she didn't have to chase after them, did she? And if so, she could have at least come back! But she didn't :(((((I have some bad photos :https://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=9815374Chttps://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=0BTXKFP3
Today's weather report says it will rain again next weekend! I hope they're wrong. I was going to join the local tracking team Saturday morning, usher at the Globe theater Saturday night, and Pat and I were going down to the border to hike the estuary for a few hours, then take Brenda to lunch, then walk however much Brenda, who is still using a walker most of the time, could manage on Sunday. Ushering will happen rain or no, but I like to be outside on the weekend even more than during the week. Enjoy your book, and I hope you get a good night's sleep. Oh yes, we saw a Cooper's hawk at work this morning. And I got osprey, red-tailed hawk, Northern harrier hawk, and kestrel photos Saturday morning, so it is a good time for raptors. :-)
We were having a sunny day today too (yes I know : yours was a few days earlier☺) but I'm not entirely happy with our weather either. After all : it's still Februari, a deep winter month for us. And as you know I love my winters. They've taken Februari from me and turned it into a spring month. But not entirely. It's still freezing a little at nigth, so the mornings are still quite cold. I went to the polder today and was on my bike at eleven, still very cold, but by the time I got back at about four o'clock temperatures had risen to 17°C/65°F. You don't know WHAT to wear!! I was too cold when I went, and too hot when I came back. And after being out for five hours I'm very tired now. My cheeks are glowing from the cold wind and quite warm sunshine. I'll try to create some puzzles and then I'm going to my couch in the livingroom, and my book, and try an early night!
It doesn't hurt to ask! Especially as we know we aren't going to get what we ask for. :-) It is sunny today, but too cold in the morning for me to drag myself out of bed and get to the lake before work. And the lake is open to boating Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday again, so I haven't been going out on the weekend. The birds aren't close to the shore when the boats are out and men are fishing from shore too. Maybe I'll walk down to the pedestrian bridge over the lake, where I saw the rainbow, after work today...
:))You don't ask for much do you????Come to think of it : that wouldn't be too bad actually, provided temperatures would stay in the range of 22-24°C (about 70-75°F) and only from April-December. In winter I'd like temperatures to be around zero in the daytime and a few degrees of frost during the night. And some occasional snow ofcourse. March and November can be gradual-transition months. And during the whole year just breezes, not gale force, or even stormy.Maybe I'm asking for a lot too? :)))))
No! I would be happy with beautiful sunny days 365 days a year. It can rain from midnight to 4 a.m., lightly so the water can soak into the ground instead of flooding and I can have a nice walk every day. :-)
:))) cheap entertainment :)I'd think that if you rarely get much weather, you'd be happy to experience it for a change. No?? :)))
It was so cold in the county recently, maybe Monday, that the local newspaper printed a list of temperatures in various places. It was 34F in Solana Beach, where I live, almost freezing! That rarely happens at the coast. It wasn't raining that day, but it rained off and on yesterday and has been raining all day today. It was even hailing for a while. A bunch of us here at work stood at the big windows on the second floor watching hailstones bounce off the sidewalk and driveway as others were hurrying inside under their bright umbrellas. We don't get much weather here in San Diego county, and most of us are tired of the rain!
Me too. Did you have just a wet and cloudy day, or were temperatures actually low??
