Always wondered how they did it .. Thanks Suzy .. Lesson of the day ...

How fascinating thanks Suzy. That would be very interesting to do. HUGS.

Banding sounds like an important part of helping our feathered friends.
Thanks, Suzy.

Thanks Suzy! I did think it make me look important. I also wear glasses so that makes me look even smarter. ;-))

Suzy, I'm glad you said what you did about birds not being injured. That was my first thought when I saw this and read your description. I know Michelle has seen tagged swans several times and has reported their location, date and time. She has several certificates for making the report. Thanks. ♥

You look SO professional, Judy!!! :)

To see the nets is a pretty neat sight, Barb. We have found banded birds (killed by cats or other prey) and reported them to authorities. If one finds a dead or injured banded bird, do a search on line to find where to report them to.

To see the banding in person would be a treat, Irena. We have seen the nets, but not the banding.

None that I know of on the Cape, Lunie. We have had flurries in our forecast here (at home), but have just had bitterly cold temperatures.

no snow here yet Suzy?

Suzy I never saw it with my own eyes, just in TV

SunnyBarb25

I've never observed such bird catching, banding and counting in person, but did see how it is done watching the nature programs. Thank you Suzy for sharing your photo :)

Suzy,
I am getting myself a clipboard to walk around with.

That must have been a great experience, Iris. They offer a program at the Audubon to observe the catching and banding of birds, but it's not when we are on Cape Cod.

One of the most amazing things is how few birds get injured by the nets, Jacki and Patti. When I first saw them, I was concerned about the safety of the birds; found my concern was unfounded. :)

We pay dues every year or so, Judy because it is a worthy cause. Each year we spend a good part of a day there when on vacation.

One of the trails was closed due to banding, Beekay. They only allow spectators at certain times.
There were two "official" looking gentlemen who were making the rounds of other nets-they had clipboards and looked like they knew what they were doing. Clipboards have a way of making people look "in the know". :)

Beekay

Did you see them catch any birds?

jals

That would be fun to watch Suzy. Are you part of the Wellfleet Audubon?

PLG1958

Fascinating. I didn't know how they did that. Thanks, Suzy!

bluebird42

So that's how they do it! Thanks, Suzy.

irisriver

Wonderful project. While in high school at a nature camp I got to watch bird banding being done. Grins!☺
