Are we sure he does not work for the Long John Silvers fast food chain?

@Mischka-I was into Asimov, silverberg, Clarke, and Lovecraft myself. Other than Of mice and men, which I liked, we had to read the dregs of booklore. Such titles as Atlas shrugged, Animal farm, and War and Peace. Also loved comic books. ( 12cents each)

Yo Ho Ho And A Bottle Of Rum!!! (er catnip) I love this costume, especially his hat.

Treasure Island in Las Vegas is a lot of fun. They have the pirate ship fight every night.

Mischka

@mauismom - Long John Silver it sure was! One of the great villains of literature!

@jimez - Jim, I'm sorry that you didn't like the book, though I sort of know what you mean. There are some books that remain classics because of English majors like me, who study them minutely, and understand what a great artist such as RL Stevenson was doing. (I've also published reviews of biographies of RLS, so I know what his wretched life was like, and how writing saved him.)

Yet, Jim, I'll admit that another classic, "Frankenstein," is barely readable, and it's all Percy Shelley's fault. If Mary Shelley had been left alone to write it, it would have been short and eerie and unique.
But Percy Shelley took over the manuscript and wrote in a lot of travelogues and moralizations, so that it's almost impossible to read today, unless you're a grad student specializing in that era. (Which I was.) I pity the high school students who have to suffer through it.

I kinda went off track there.

I don't want to see the Muppet version, but I wouldn't mind re-reading the book today. RLS was like Poe and Shelley and Wells: one of the great forefathers of "spec fic" - genre fiction in the family lines of science fiction, horror, the supernatural, and thrillers.

Treasure Island the book was boring to me. Treasure Island in Las Vegas however
has a great buffet, and some decent slot time. %D

mauismom

love his hat! now this is Horatio, just waiting for his pint of catnip ale. pirate's name remains a mystery. was it Long John Silver?

Mischka
