June and Jawz, thank you both for such interesting stories. I've heard geese are good guards but not peacocks which have a very strange cry...Sue

juneshone

yes geese are the best guard animals ever but they can be terrors

Jawz

My grandpa and grandma had peacocks when I was growing up. They had a dairy farm. The peacocks were some of the best guards ever. No one or nothing could get anywhere near without them sounding an alarm! They also had geese...a double alarm!! And watch out for the geese...they'd bite! Ouch!!!

we 'have' two a blue boy and a white girl. they escaped from up the top of the village about four months ago and now won't go home. they sleep on the conservatory roof next door and spend the day wandering about. Even the dogs have given up trying to get rid of them. Soon the goats will be coming home for the winter. the doors are going on their new shed today, don't think they will like our menagerie, they don't even like each other lol.
