Franz Bischoff's early training was in applied design, watercolor, and ceramic decoration. After immigrating to the United States, he worked as a porcelain painter and teacher of porcelain painting, as a teacher of watercolor painting, and as a manufacturer of ceramic glazes. In 1906 he settled in California and began to focus on painting on canvas.
