:( I didn't get either one.

Fowly

I have heard them both, but didn’t get either.🦉

hippo

Well done Audacious. You have saved my reputation! :))

hippo

@Mischka E_stace hasn't got U-s, so it could be described as U-s-less OR U-less. Just like U-ful idiot would work, but wouldn't make much of an answer... I did worry slightly about that, and would have preferred to find a word with more than one U to be fair...

Shame it was so hard, I thought it was an unusual puzzle, but I couldn't find easier phrases on the day and I was out of puzzles...

Audacious

Got both
Once I'd worked out #1 I did have to google it to see if it was an actual thing not just two random words. Turns out to be be a single frame cartoon from the British newspaper, The Daily Mirror, from 1935 to 1975 I think it was.
Interesting that "Youse an idiot" works in both Brooklyn and Glasgow.

Juba1010

Nope.
I resemble #2.

Mischka

Okay, I remember Eustace being called Useless in "The Silver Chair" novel of the Narnia series, but wouldn't the puzzle then be U-less Eustace? What am I missing here?

nanab

No and No for 2 days in a row, YIKES.
I don't think that has ever happened to me with your puzzles hippo.

SPaceDinVADerOne

what??!! #2 wasn't "Youse an idiot" ::: with appropriate Brooklyn accent :::

msbonne

:::sadly muttering to myself as I walk away from puzzle:::

6, you idiot was not even close.....

manicpuzzler

A definite 'thinker'.

hippo

Answers without further prevarication:

#1: Useless Eustace (google it if you are none the wiser).
#2: Useful idiot.

msbonne

I like 3 words for 2.

Juba1010

Please pass the milk BB.

nanab

Yep.

Juba1010

Nut’n honey?

nanab

I ate some of Juba's cereal.

Audacious

I have another answer for #2 with only 2 words and no accent requirement.

Juba1010

Hmmm...

hippo

If you want a clue for #1, solve #2.

If you want a clue for #2, solve #1.

:))

ladyblue

I have a guess for #1. Will have to wait and see. :)

ladyblue

I'm glad I'm not the only one who went there for #2. ;) :)

hippo

I am sure these can be found in both Glasgow and Brooklyn...

SPaceDinVADerOne

I had the same answer for #2, but with a Brooklyn accents 😉

Audacious

I have the 1st despite not having heard of it (before my time).
I have a wrong answer for the 2nd (requires 3 words and a Glasgow accent).

hippo

#1is old and British, you may need to guess the answer and check it...

SPaceDinVADerOne

I is not 😂 lolol

Mischka

I feel like I'm on the verge of both answers, but I haven't slept and need to nap before I return to this.

hippo

Two rebuses...

They are both two words.

tuppence
