The Auburn Band had been playing the Auburn Victory March as a fight song for decades. But in 1954, Auburn supporter Roy B. Sewell thought that the old tune was outdated and something new was in order. After several failed attempts from students and fans, Sewell commissioned two New York songwriters named Robert Allen and Al Stillman to write the words and music for a new fight song.

Thus War Eagle was born as the new Auburn fight song. Roy Sewell wrote, "Boy, we have a peach of a song," and the new tune was premiered at the Auburn football season-opener on September 24, 1955.

Oh my! They grow up sooo fast!! Our baby, great grand baby, will soon be 4 months old. Unbelievable!! He is the happiest baby I've ever seen. I have dozens of pictures that my granddaughter and daughter have sent me and he's always smiling or laughing. My avatar is a picture of him.

Binkydo

He will be a year on Thursday. I can't even imagine!!

DixieGal

Can't wait to see Isaacs videos! Oh my!! Twins and Isaac is how old...not even one year...is that right? Yes, the Lord will have to help you all!! LOL!! And He will!! I'll check FB later.

Binkydo

Isaac is a mess and a half! Lots of fun these days. If you get on FB, check out his latest two videos and his new kippah (skullcap). His mom is expecting twins in Sept. Lord help us all!!! I'll private message you soon. I have an interesting prayer thing going on.

DixieGal

Hey my friend! (Do you want me to call you your real name? Ha!) I had appendicitis with lots of infection, etc, etc! Had surgery on March 21st and I'm doing fine now. Can't keep us old gals down...right?
How are you doing? I'm not on Facebook much these days. Hope all is well with you and your family...how is Isaac doing? What a precious little guy...and a blessing from God!! Love you!

Binkydo

Dottie, what's been going on? I've missed out on you being sick, I think. Would have been praying for you.

DixieGal

Hi Haney! Class reunions are such fun, getting caught up with old friends. Sounds like a fun trip. You and Paula have your hands full, but you will probably enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you so much for your prayers. I am doing great, just slow getting my energy back, but that's a small thing. You can't keep an old lady down! :) Gene is sort of at a stand still right now, but that's the way that disease is. He is much better than he was, so that's prayers answered. Thanks again and you and Paula have a great time! Can't wait to hear all about it when you return.

hcamp

Dottie, just checking on you before we leave tomorrow for AL for two weeks. It is class reunion time again and Paula and I are in charge of our two reunions. I hope and pray you are still on a path of full recovery. Will talk with you later. Also, we keep Gene in our thoughts and prayers.

haney :-)

hcamp

Thanks, Dottie. Haney:-)

DixieGal

Hi Haney. You have it right. Put the @ then her Jigidi name without putting a space between the @ and her name. That should alert her when she signs in. There will be a number in red in the corner at the very top of the page.
P.S. You are not an old man! : ) We are both young at heart! Haha!!

hcamp

Dottie, I need to ask a favor and you might just be the person with the answer. A person has commented on one of my puzzles. She has a question and would like for me to contact her. I know her Jigidi name and her real first name. I wrote in the normal way, but she ha not picked it up. I have seen messages with the @ prefix but I am not certain how to use it if that indeed is a messaage methos. Can you help an old man?
Haney :-),

DixieGal

I agree, Haney! WAR EAGLE!! : )

hcamp

We still had a successful season considering the 1-2 start with losses to Clemson and Texas A & M. I Hope we continue to heal physically and mentally and play the best of our ability in our bowl game.
WAR EAGLE! Haney :-)

DixieGal

Mary, you stick to your team! All of us have favorites and that's what makes it so interesting and fun. One of my daughters graduated from Bama and we are just as proud of her as anything! She pulls for Bama and we pull for Auburn, but we still love each other and get a kick out of kidding with each other. And we always pull for Bama when they aren't playing Auburn. Thanks for your comment. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving too!

Nicepeach2

Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. Since you know that not only my family is split between Auburn and Alabama, I guess I cannot say I was totally disappointed. Too old to change that. So for me, whoever has the chance for the Number 1 team I pull for. That probably only makes sense to me. But I am the one I have to live with.,...

DixieGal

Hi Beth!! WAR EAGLE back atcha! : )

bayhome43

. . . me too!!! Wait til next year! WAR EAGLE, hey!!!!

DixieGal

I agree, Cuz! They will always be my team, too! WAR EAGLE!!!

Binkydo

I thought of you and Haney yesterday, Cuz. Sad! But WAR EAGLE, anyway!!! They are my team, no matter what the score.

DixieGal

Thank you, Judy! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and have recuperated from the game yesterday (╯︵╰,) ...except you Bama fans, of course! Congratulations...but just wait 'til next year!! :D Have a great day everyone!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Auburn buddies! Safe travels Haney and all who will be on the road. Dixiegal don't work too hard. Blessings to you Mary and all our jigidi friends. I will be cheering on the Tide but praying all players are kept safe. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and God bless you and our United States of America!!
judy RT

Binkydo

Our family is split. Arg!

bayhome43

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, all. Good luck this weekend also :-) And those of you with "split" families, may the best team win LOL ☺♥☺

hcamp

Thanks, Dottie and the best to you and your family at Thanksgiving! Haney :-)

DixieGal

Have a great trip, Haney! Happy Thanksgiving!! So thankful for all of our Jigidi friends. Our family is coming here for Thanksgiving so I have a busy week ahead of me. I love all the cooking and getting ready for them and my husband does, too. Gotta get off the computer and start ironing table cloths and napkins! Will check in later! See you next week, Haney!

hcamp

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We are off to the Mountain for a week and Thanksgiving with the family. I will be away from JIGIDI for that period. Haney :-)

DixieGal

You're right, Haney. We expect so much from our Auburn players and they put their all into those games. I felt so bad for Pettway when I saw him limping. He always gives 100%. I will be praying for him too, Haney.

hcamp

Mary, your words about your brother were truly a spiritual uplift. War Eagle to him! Also, War Eagle to all of you Tigers on this page. i was tired again after "playing" so hard against Vandy. We need to get Pettway cured and ready for the rest of the season.. I hated to see him pull up with that injury after such a good run. Praying for him. Haney :-)

Binkydo

What a wonderful story, Mary.

DixieGal

Mary, this brought tears to my eyes! What a blessed home-going for your brother. Thank you for sharing. Big hugs to you, dear Mary!

Nicepeach2

To say that he was a big Auburn fan is a real understatement. He lived in Nashville. Not too far up the road. He had bile duct cancer. The 2 other remaining brothers and our spouses went to be there in the hospital. He looked terrible, so gaunt. But he had this big smile on his face and his Auburn cap on and when I walked in the room the first thing he said was "Sister, WAR EAGLE." His room stayed filled with a lot of Christians and we shared so much. We laughed, we cried, we sang. We formed a circle around his bed and sang Blest Be The Tie That Binds". I have never witnessed such a home going that he had. He loved and was so loved. Well, I got started with that and it just would not stop.

Blessings, Mary

DixieGal

That is so sweet, Mary. He must have been a big Auburn fan...(and still is, I'm sure)! : )

Nicepeach2

Yeah Dixiegal..

WAR EAGLE is right. I always have a chat with my brother (very long distance to heaven ) and tell him that I am watching on his behalf.

DixieGal

Amen!! : )

bayhome43

. . . amen sister!!

DixieGal

WAAAAAAAAARRRRR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!! Auburn 23 - Vandy 16 !!!!

DixieGal

Oops! Beth I missed your comment! Yes, it's great when a plan works out! LOL!! WAR EAGLE!!!

DixieGal

Hey Cuz! I'll wave as you drive down to PC! What fun to go with old friends! Have a great time and wave on your way back!! :)

DixieGal

Thanks, Mary! I was wondering what year they started calling it Auburn! WAR EAGLE!!

DixieGal

Yes, Haney, it was quite a game and the last second was magnificent!! haha! WAR EAGLE!!

hcamp

Have fun at the beach. Haney :-)

Binkydo

Hey, Cuz...I'm headed through south AL this week on the way to Panama City. I'll wave your way. I'm meeting some gals I went to elementary school with 100 years ago. One is driving with me, and I'm not sure she's ever been through our state. Hi, HANEY.

hcamp

WAR EAGLE to you, Beth! :-)

bayhome43

. . . I love it when a plan works out!! LOL War Eagle!! ☺♥☺

hcamp

Mary, my father graduated from API in 1931. My brother from API in 1958. As you reported, the first class to graduate from Auburn University was in 1960. I was in the class of 1960. It was known and called Auburn for many years when if was still API. Haney :-)

Nicepeach2

Greetings,
I started thinking about what Auburn was called right after WWII when my youngest brother went there and it was Alabama Polytecnic. Had to check it out. It was called that until 1960! WAR EAGLE!

hcamp

War Eagle to you also Binkydo! Haney :-)

Binkydo

WAAAR EAGLE!!!!

hcamp

A big War Eagle to you Dottie! What a finish and what a game.

Haney :-)

DixieGal did you ever stay at the Laguna Beach area in PC? My grandparents built the Laguna Beach Apts in 1944. It's still there but is part of the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat now. It wasn't far from the Seahorse store...the only thing around there when I was a kid! I remember running after the mosquito truck with my cousins. We were all in that white spray! Guess that's what wrong w/ me today!! Hope you all have a Great Labor Day!
judy

Binkydo

Yes. Hi, Mary. We could all be family. :)

DixieGal

Hi Cuz! Have fun in Panama City! I've spent many hours on the beach there.
Yes, we certainly are loyal fans for sure! WAR EAGLE!!!

DixieGal

Mary, you might be another cousin to Binkdo and I!
Yes, I'm sorry about the AU game, too, but "maybe next game"!! WAR EAGLE!!

Binkydo

I'm coming down that way at the end of the month, headed to Panama City.
Sorry, Tigers; but our loyalty is never diminished! WAR EAGLE!

Nicepeach2

And I was born inDothan, after my parents had 6 sons I beautiful Eufaula and then where am I born, DOTHAN, then at 5 we moved to Birmingham. Small world. We went to First Baptist in Montgomery and then moved to Millbrook and went to Coosada Baptist Church. End of my bio. Lol. Sorry about Auburn game.

DixieGal

Yes, I live in Montgomery, Mary. It's a small world, isn't it? I was born and raised in Birmingham.

Nicepeach2

Here you go Dottie, for you and in memory of my precious brother, Robert. I see you said your daughter went to Auburn in Montgomery, that is where my son and husband went when we lived in Montgomery. Is that where you live?

DixieGal

Then I won't be watching the Bama game. Yes, not very good planning.

hcamp

8 pm EST ( I assume)..ABC. Not good planning. Only an hour difference from AU game! H.

DixieGal

9 pm eastern? I'm on central time but I might not make it past the first quarter! zzzzzzzzzz :D
We will be watching the Bama game, too. What time is it on, Haney?

hcamp

Scheduling is changing. This Saturday the Kickoff Classic features NC vs UGA, UA plays So. Cal and we play Clemson. There are other big games also. Haney :-) Our game starts at 9 pm EST. I will likely doze off.

DixieGal

Speaking of this puzzle, I think it was a rather easy one to solve. Don't you all agree?
And it should help the Tigers win easily!!
Beth, you bring up a good point, also. We should just beat the sox off of Clemson and that will be that!!! No more wins for our opponents! :D

bayhome43

. . . can you believe we have to open with Clemson!! What happened to opening with a "warm up" school like Ball State or Louisiana-Monroe or Western Carolina??? One good thing - if we can pull off a win, it will be smooth sailing from then on LOL :-) ☺♥☺

DixieGal

Yes, we ARE discussing the puzzle, aren't we? WAR EAGLE!!! :)

hcamp

Dottie, I believe you are going to have to petition Jigidi for an extension on this page to get all the Auburn conversation on it! WAR EAGLE!! However, it is within the rules. We are discussing the puzzle...right? Haney :-) Just like golf...score more..lose!

DixieGal

Great excuse, Haney! HOWEVER....you scored more than the ladies!!! (sorry...just kidding!) ツ

hcamp

Dottie and Binkydo, I was busy singing the fight song and came in below you at you 7;25...a poor excuse! Haney :-)

Binkydo

Rare for me, too. Must be that Tiger motivation. :)

DixieGal

Hey look girls! We are all on the Leaderboard!! That's rare for me! Haha!

DixieGal

Haney is the man! He found all this info for us. Thanks again, Haney!

Binkydo

Yay! Thanks for all the info. War Eagle

DixieGal

Good job! Thanks, Haney! :)
Hey Cuz and Beth, here are the words of the fight song. I had forgotten some of them.

War Eagle, fly down the field,
Ever to conquer, never to yield.
War Eagle, fearless and true.
Fight on you orange and blue.
Go! Go! Go!
On to vict'ry, strike up the band.
Give 'em hell, give 'em hell,
Stand up and yell, hey!
War Eagle, win for Auburn,
Power of Dixieland!

hcamp

Check this AU information: http://www.auburntigers.com/trads/08_auburn_fight_song.html Haney :-)

Binkydo

I guess you could have sung "Hit 'em high, hit 'em low, go Tigers go" or something lame like that. Oh, me...

DixieGal

LOL!! That made me laugh, Cuz, I don't like to give people that either! LOL!!

Beth, after hit 'em high, hit 'em low, comes, stand up and yell, hey. (I think) I guess they changed the give 'em hell part to the hit 'em high! Gosh...It's been so long since I sung it I get the whole thing mixed up! :D

bayhome43

Judy - we (the BSU crowd!) used to sing "hit 'em high, hit 'em low" - which doesn't rhyme with anything! - back in the 60's :-) ☺♥☺

Binkydo

Yeah, Cuz, I guess football fans in general can get obnoxious; but I know what you mean about the orange. It's not even a good color. They made it like a water-color. Auburn orange has LIFE.

Binkydo

"Give 'em heck, give 'em heck, stand up and..." (um...yeck?...um...Go scrub your neck?..Nothing fits, but I really don't like giving people "hell".)

DixieGal

Cuz, we lived in Knoxville, TN for 3 years due to my husband's job, and it was torture! I got really sick of that shade of orange! :D Some people were very obnoxious, but probably 'some' Auburn fans can be, too.

DixieGal

Beth, my oldest daughter graduated from Alabama, but we still love her! Haha! And we forgive her because she married an Auburn alumnus! And their youngest son is an Auburn alumnus, as well.
My other daughter went to AU and her daughter graduated AU, too! :) And her son is attending AUM...Auburn campus in Montgomery.
♫♪ "On to victory, strike up the band...!!" ♪♫

Binkydo

I sure do enjoy hearing from all you Auburn fans. I'm a minority where I live.

bayhome43

Haney and Dottie, my next door neighbor, Jim, is AU class of '64!! (he usually waits til after the first game to put up his banner)
Judy, the folks across the street (who have eight grown children!!) are big Alabama fans. To top that, the little house behind the Alabama family just changed hands and the new neighbor is a 70's graduate of AU!!
Actually, this is not really unusual in this area (FL Panhandle next to Baldwin County, AL) You are pretty much born into into one of the other. In some cases one or two of the children will attend the opposite school or marry someone from the opposite school and that makes it interesting - ha!
Binkydo . . . War Eagle fearless and true; fight on you orange and blue . . . go, go, go. . . Beth :-)

DixieGal

Great idea, Haney! You will find a lot of them there. I'll look for it!
I'm hoping Big Blue will come through, too! We need a miracle!! :)

hcamp

Beth and Dottie, our flag is flying high in NC and hoping Big Blue will come through! Haney :-) '60 and '63. Dottie, I am going to post your puzzle on FB and find some more loyal Tigers!

DixieGal

Yay! "Ever the optimist, Beth", I'm coming to your house! I don't have an AU flag any more...gotta get one before the game!! WAR EAGLE!!!

bayhome43

. . . put up my AU flag today - ever the optimist LOL ☺♥☺ Beth - class of '65 :-)

hcamp

You got it right, Binkydo! WAR EAGLE! Go Tiguhs! Haney :-)

DixieGal

You go, Cuz!! I'm singing right along with you! :D War Eagle!

Binkydo

I have the best seat in the house. I'm FROM Alabama, but live elsewhere. Therefore I can root for both teams except for one time a year. On that day, even though my uncle coached under the Bear in days of yore, I proudly stand up and say, "War Eagle, fly down the field, ever to conquer, never to yield..."

DixieGal

Hi Judy! Sorry it was painful for you. Just remember that it's painful for us when Bama beats us!! :D War Eagle!!
Love ya, too! Dottie

This was rather painful for me dixiegal, but I did it for you! Let the games begin!! ROLL TIDE!!!
Love ya, judy

DixieGal

Thank you, and...WARRR EAGLE, Haney! :)

DixieGal

You're welcome, Pat! :)

hcamp

Fantastic, Dottie. WARRRR Eagle! Haney :-)

pkin38

WOW !!! That's different ... Thanks
