Why are you reporting this puzzle?

As I walked up the road, an area was littered with small red spots. I gathered a few. When I used my cell phone to identify what I had, it came up with the answer, ear mites. I know that a couple of 80'ish tall red maple trees stand sentry by the road there. I tend not to believe everything I learn on the internet.

And now that it's late spring, I'm busy pulling up tiny maple trees that are springing up from last year's seeds that have germinated.

Eww! The thought of them as ear mites!! Made my ears itch too, Gayle...
I'm with the maple tree backers. They only look only a little smaller and redder than the Manitoba Maple blossoms that are sticking to my car's windshield every morning right about now!
