Update:
The "hat' is up and you can see the 'holes' where the seeds come out after they've ripened. It's like shaking a samba ball...only smaller and less loud! ☺☺

I could, Ella, but I still have plenty of (shaken out) seeds in a popsicles cardboard box in the loft. I'll just shake them out over the ground at the plants 'feet' and see if new growth will be added☺

Yeah, Pammi, I can almost hear Elton singing his heart out... LOL♥

You're welcome, Lia. I hope your daughter will expand her "Poppy field" when she'll scatter the seeds....if not,at least the birds will have a ball! ☺☺

It does, Anne, one can let the wind take care of it, but then you might end up with Poppies averywhere, so I'll just scatter the seeds on the soil where the plant(s) sit. We started with one plant but now have 3 smaller extra!

Atsutsa

How interesting! I sort of remember that from 30 years ago. Will it re-seed into new plants?

Lia

Thanks Impie for the photo and the info.
I had given my daughter 2 different Poppy plants - which now also have 'hats'.
I will mail her the info about the ripening, that she can collect the seeds AND partly feed them to the birds! Thanks for that!

Pammi

Wow, Impie. The song that came to me straight away is the "Circle of Life" from "The Lion King" because that is certainly what we have seen from your Oriental Poppy this time around. ♥☺♥☺

EllaMB

I guess you could clip off the seed pod, let it dry out and then plant the seeds next year, couldn't you?

Impie

Oh, I see, I don't know which one you mean, can't think straight anymore either, I'm off to bed now...nighty night!:-))

gemstone

No...another good one...but the one I'm thinking of has a samba beat to it. ;D

Impie

LOL ...♫shake it up Baby....♫ ♫Twist and shout...♫... perhaps?
You're welcome, Faye, I'm glad you enjoyed the postings of the cycle of the Oriental Poppy :)))

You're welcome, Nan....I'm glad you enjoyed the botany lesson here on Jigidi University :)))

nanlein

Thank you, Impie, for this delightful botany lesson! I found it fascinating.

gemstone

You've made me think of the song that has 'Shake, shake, shake" in it...but that's all I know! LOL This is interesting to see. Thank you. :)))

Impie

Glad you enjoyed it, Betty, thanks ☺

Moeder Natuur is geweldig, schutkleur. Nee, ik bewaar de zaden niet, ik strooi ze over de grond rondom aan de voet van de plek van de plant. Sommige zullen nieuwe plant(en) worden, maar het merendeel zal worden opgegeten door de vogels! ☺♥

schutkleur

Mooi hè? Bewaar je 't zaad voor volgend jaar?? ☺♥

WOW! Cool to see the full life cycle!
