In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit the Binnenhof in The Hague, nestled beside the Hofvijver lake in the center of The Hague. It is one of the oldest Parliament buildings in the world still in use.

Initially built in the 13th century, it began as a modest hunting lodge for the counts of Holland. Around 1250, Count Floris IV expanded the complex, and his son, Floris V, constructed the Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights), a grand Gothic hall that remains the centerpiece of the Binnenhof. Over time, the site grew into the political heart of the Dutch Republic.

By the 15th century, the Binnenhof housed the Staten-Generaal, the governing body of the provinces, and it has remained the seat of Dutch governance ever since - now home to the Prime Minister's office and the modern Dutch Parliament. The Binnenhof has seen revolts, royal intrigues, and political assassinations, including the lynching of Johan de Witt in 1672 just outside its gates.

The Ridderzaal is still used today for the annual Prinsjesdag ceremony, where the monarch delivers the Speech from the Throne. Although the Binnenhof has witnessed centuries of upheaval, it has endured as a symbol of history and continuity ♥

A nice skyline, and great that something that are OLD and last are important, still.
