"Film Fun" cover, Jan. 1928
Enoch Bolles (1883-1976) was an Art-Deco pinup master (called the "saddest and maddest" of the great cover artists), worked as a cover artist of young starlets.

I wrote a biography on Bolles that was published in Illustration Magazine and I have to take issue with the 'saddest and maddest' label (which I've never heard used before). Yes, Enoch was institutionalized for many years because of psychological disorders, but he continued to have a very strong relationship with his family, he painted while hospitalized (magazine covers and portraits of hospital staff), and he was eventually released and lived out his final years with his family.

P9, after a fashion. Every discipline is related, sometimes tenuously, to another and eventually ALL disciplines.

And history is quite interesting and rather fun when one doesn't have to memorize dates any more.

is this art history 101?

OldManMontgomery ~ It seems you know your cover girls from the whole flapper era. What fun!

Hi CC~As they say, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" - Well, at least not when it comes to that era and Bolles in particular. He painted primarily flapper and burlesque girls and, given that he had schizophrenia (often painting while in an asylum from what I've read), he liked to add a bit of the "bizarre" to his work. But since he did cover work, he didn't get to far out of line!

OldManMontgomery

Great caricature of Tricksy Vavoom. Famous actress of the era...
