I hiked once in a small state park. It was a much longer & steeper trail than we anticipated, and a storm was coming, as well as dusk. Then we came to the sign - "Rattlesnake area ahead. Do not enter if you do not want to see rattlesnakes." There was no turning back at that point! I'm terrified of snakes, and did see a small one - on the rock next to where I leaned for a moment to catch my breath! I found energy I didn't know I had left!! My hiking partner, behind me, said the snake did too. Having survived back to the trailhead, I asked the ranger why that sign wasn't at the BEGINNING of the trail?!
