The style of this image is not Realism, but Cloisonnism. That's a possible explanation.:-)

Yes, it does appear on the beach pretty much every day, with or without a storm. But not behind a seawall unless it's a heck of a storm that overtops the wall. I just found it odd that Serusier would depict the man this way rather than in the way we would usually see him - on a beach right next to the open water.

I don't live by the sea, but I think after the storm, always the seaweed will appear on the coast. :-)

I like Serusier and I like this painting, but is that a seawall in front of the seaweed gatherer and we're to assume there was a huge storm and the seaweed was brought over the wall? Just wondering what you think, Libi.
