Why are you reporting this puzzle?

We are hoping the pea sticks will deter the pesky pigeons - we can but hope! The leeks are protected by mesh over wire hoops especially bought in for the job. We actually have two rhubarb plants as we thought we'd lost one, but up it popped the following season! Nature is amazing! (The little bush at the end on the right is, I think, a euphorbia).

I don't blame you, Mila!

niccolino59

I will, Jim!

WhiskersNFeathers

I gave up on trying.

Yes just like celery, need to get those stringy bits off lol. Thank Jim for his thoughtful suggestion.

Thanks Jim. Yes, sometimes it seems no matter what you do to it, it's still got quite a sour/bitter taste. Husband Jim says to make sure you strip the outer stringy skins before cooking.

I'm glad you enjoy it, lockcutter, I know it's not to everyone's taste!

Mila, Jim does all the cooking! He doesn't use sugar during cooking - we add it afterwards when it's dished up because that way each can use to suit. I don't have sugar as I'm diabetic so I use Truvia (comes from the stevia plant apparently) it's got a sweet taste but isn't to everyone's liking, but I've got used to it. Also, Jim makes sure all the outer stringy sour skins are removed before cooking. As children we used to be given a raw cut stick & a bowl of sugar to dip into but I never liked it. I'm still not that keen, but occasionally Jim will make a rhubarb & apple crumble which I'll have with dairy-free cream (I'm intolerant to dairy) which offsets the tartness.

I've had Ruhbarb pie several times and yes even with all the sugar it remains tart to the taste. I've had it with strawberry's in it also, same tartness, but I like it ;-) Very nice garden Nicco

lockcutter

I love rhubarb.

WhiskersNFeathers

Rhubarb reminds me of a Brit friend I had that was always telling me of this "delicious" pie she made. Well on her visit to Florida we went to the grocery store and purchased the ingredients for her to make the pie. It takes a lot of sugar and yet it was still very sour (tart). So I have yet to taste a delicious rhubarb pie. So how do you use it Nicky or is it Jim the baker?
