Is it still Halal Marina ? just asking.

MarinaNephele

Zwan luncheon meat still has a key!.

The key would often break before you were done opening the can, no matter how careful you tried to be.

CJ45

Pat this was in our cupboard as well.

patsquire

Canned corned beef, ahhhhhhh. Wonderful stuff. It still comes with the key here in the US. I've got some in my cupboard right now. ☺

CJ45

Ha,Ha, Jason in my big wild garden I never know where she is untill she wants to eat. LOL!!!

jasonchung

Clive, I am happy that Penny has found a safe place to hide for a while and is still having and enjoying her meals.

nanab

Thanks Clive. I'm actually glad Spam doesn't have a key anymore, I would lose my grip and manage to get cut more often than not. : )

CJ45

Hi Jason yes Penny came out for breakfast today no Idea where she was hiding.

CJ45

@redina1
Robin no it is not spam it is boiled beef.

manicpuzzler

Love corned beef hash, served with pickled red cabbage :)

Fowly

Thanks for the tag Clive. I like corned beef from the tin….especially the aspic. I have never had it as hash, or any cooked meal; I like it in a sandwich with tomato sauce or fruit chutney. And we have that same lovely little key, you just have to hold your mouth the right way when using it LOL. 🦉🚂

jasonchung

Thank you, Clive for the tag.

Have not eaten corned beef for many, many years.

Has Penny made an appearance yet?

irisriver

I love canned corned beef in cheese and scrambled eggs done in a skillet. grins!☺

SPaceDinVADerOne

😊

PutterDutt

I like the hash baked in a glass casserole dish, then a couple of scrambled eggs poured on top. I like the addition of grated cheese, John.

carthill

I opened a tin of corned beef only yesterday Clive. You do need to put a knife down the inside of the tin in order to slide the meat out. Corned Beef Hash is quite a favourite in our household.

redina1

Is that the same as Spam? I do remember keys from way back when.

Jumble

@Bubble

Jumble

I wanted to, but at this moment I have to make do with taking my hot water to bed with me after spending all day in the freezer

SPaceDinVADerOne

😊

CJ45

Izzy I thought you had AC installed this year ?
We have it in Kays car but never use it we open the widows and enjoy the warm days. When on holiday in the middle east we turn it off, we both like to be warm.

With home made bread and jam.

CJ45

@Bubble
Ha, Ha, Harvey thanks for remembering great days as a child and teen but I escaped London as a 17 teen. LOL and have no intentions of going back.

SPaceDinVADerOne

I remember those, although the canned corn beef hash I buy nowadays has no key. scrambled eggs over top a plate of corned beef has, sprinkled with cheddar ........ mmmmmmmmmmm ... breakfast is served 😊

firstdawn

Put me on the "Does Not Like Spam" list.

Bubble

@Jumble
Izzy, if you have some ice packs, try using those. We had 40+ C - 2 weeks back and resorted to using ice packs around our waist and on our heads. Looked like twerps but it kept us cool. You can also put your (clean) socks in the fridge and then wear them or fill a hot water bottle with ice cold water. Don't over due it in the heat.

Jumble

@CJ45 I wish we had some rain, it's 32 degrees here today, and I have had 3 showers another tonight at 10.30pm, I have been melting all day.

Bubble

@CJ45

We used to eat a lot of canned corned beef, not much any more. Any keys I used always used to break off halfway and even the sardine cans we buy have easier rip off lids but I still manage to break most of them. Just call me sardine fingers.👀💨

Maria SPAM is in a world of its own with no competitors. Half of the people I know on
Jigidi love Spam in all its forms and we even have a Spam Club.

Harvey remembers Princes, I don't and he also remembers Stamford Hill, he used to buy salt beef sandwiches from delis. He also says to tell you, Clive, that he has a 6 inch long sardine can key, bought it in England - its 55 years old, unused but he's currently using it as a cotter pin.
He will send it to you if you need it in an emergency !! 😱

rswestley

When I first saw the name "Princes Corned Beef" I thought Prince Harry started a new business so he could support himself since he no long dines I Buckingham Palace. Thanks for the info Clyde. And Thanks to KC... I had forgotten, but corned beef hash with eggs used to be one of my favorites. When did they stop putting corned beef in vending machines?

CJ45

@Jumble
Izzy we have had an enormus storm started with hail stones then rain and hail my front drive is completly flooded my storm drains cannot handley the storm waters poor old penny is some where in the garden but do not know where. LOL!!!

CJ45

@Bebe
Thank you for your sensible words

CJ45

@Jumble
It is easy to open with out a key you just need a pair of long nose pliers...Thee hee.. where is your tool box ???

CJ45

Not forgetting you, Maria and Ianto.

KittyCounselor

I used to love corned beef hash with an egg on top many years ago when I used to eat meat. The hash came from a can but it didn't have a neat key like that.

CJ45

@Bubble
I know you did not live in my part of London as a child but Harvey did does he remember ?

CJ45

Ha,Ha, you have caught me on the "hop" jeri and Izzy I put a link in just below for you all to enjoy about Princesgroup.

Chuck the key away, remove the top and bottom ends with a tin-opener, use the smaller “lid” to push the corned beef through the tin and onto a plate.
For our US friends, for “tin” read “can”.

CJ45

No way Maria Span is YUCK made me sick as a child bought in by the G I,s after WWII.
Corned beef is natual beef boiled then put into cans so it is preserved this is a product of Brazil. "Princes" is a posh importer and trader well established in the UK.
As a child and a teen living amoust the Jewish people I used to buy salt beef sandwiches from a jewish restarant for 2/6 shillings in old money.
My wife who lived miles away from me as a child an teen also enjoyed this delacas but not from a Jewish shop.
Bubble and Harvey would remember. Ask them about a place called Stanford hill.
So the only way to get the taste is in a can now, My wife makes what she calls corned beef Hassh. LOL!!!

Jumble

We have keys in ours too, but I have picked up a can without realising the key is missing. Nightmare.
I often open the tin, put the meat on an ovenproof dish smear tomato ketchup over it, then cover it with mash potato, serve with veg of baked beans. Delicious.
Large tin is £2.30

jeribar8

We still have keys on our corned beef in the can too.
The price has really gone up on ours. I buy the brisket
and cook it in my crock pot. I haven't priced a brisket
lately... guess that's super high too.

Jumble

I quite like corned beef in a sandwich with Branston pickle.

I remember, from a long time ago.

Watchman

Only that it is beef, not pork.

Watchman

There it is the world-famous can key. It is a latchkey can. Is it like SPAM? ;-))

CJ45

As Promised.
